Need VW help (eletrical)

Hi All

I need some help on a 2005 VW Caddy diesel. You guys are the closest help I have to a diesel vehicle so I hope you guy will indulge!

The vehicle seems to have its battery drained after 4-5 days of sitting. The battery has been replaced twice in the last 18 months. I checked the parasitic drain and it reads 0.3 amps. Too high I know. I spoke to the dealer under the warranty. After checking with their diagnostic computers they said that the vehicle will need some time to "go to sleep mode" and then it drops to 0.016 amps. I take this with a pinch of salt as they also told me batteries lasting 9 months is "normal" and parasitic draw of 0.3 amps is "normal". I think I'm getting some smoke blown up behind me.

During my ampmeter check, I also pulled all the fuses ( and relays) and did not get a change the reading. I disconnect the alternator and no change too. I'm stumped by this as well as the explanation from the dealer.

Is there such a sleep mode? and 0.3amps drain before that is normal?

Thanks for all comments
Oreo

What year is it? I thought the Caddy ended with the Rabbit (?).

Anyway, check at TDIclub.com and/or vwvortex.com; good luck!

It's not US-market, is it? Huh... didn't know such a beast still existed! I had a couple different (original) Caddy diesels. Neat trucks.

Agreed - Oreo - vwvortex is a decent forum, I've had help there with a family member's Jetta III. Good luck!

When you disconnected the alternator did you remove all the connections or just the plug with the small guage wires?
