Thank God for DC's strict gun laws. Without them, who knows how many people would be murdered by other means!!

And let's not forget when the ex- crack smoking mayor Marion Berry got held up at gun point in his house in DC. He was just "shocked" that this could happen in his neighborhood....

Gun laws only keep law abiding citizens from owning guns, Criminals can have any kind of gun they want! It's not the trigger, but who pulls the trigger

I hope you realize that's the point I was making!

BTW, I used to direct the NRA's national television show. Yup, I'm pretty proud of that!!

Anyone who thinks serious gun control is ever going to fly in this country is smoking something.

I'm in favor of private gun ownership. It's the final hedge against a tyrannical govt. being able to step on the citizenry with impunity.

OTOH, I heard a piece today on NPR about the AK 47. They claimed that it is by far the leading instrument of death on the planet. Do gun collectors really need to have these things so they can sell them at gun shows? Some are going to get into the country through the black market no matter what but I think banning them as thoroughly as possible from legal trade will cut down on their overall availability.

Consider the source, NPR. The AK47 is the leading instrument of death on this planet because many countries armies use them because they are inexpensive.

Lets not forget the 20 - 30 million killed by Mao, the 30 million killed by Stallin, the 10 million killed by Hitler, Cambodians, Rwandans and many others killed by dictators adding up to about 100 million in the 20th Century alone.

DC can keep it's gun laws. I live in Virginia.
Maryland has some pretty strict gun laws too.

I consider the source to be sound. They mentioned what you said and more. The speaker pointed out that the CIA has distributed many of them, in Afghanistan (during the Soviet invasion) and in El Salvador. He said they used them in lieu of the M-16 because they're more reliable and cheaper. He said the Pentagon will never go that route because the gun is associated with our lowlife enemies. Plus, the AK is more of a scattershot, close range weapon whereas our guns are better for longer range, sniping type kills.

Relax, I'm aware that there are far better weapons for serious snipers than the m-16. I'd heard a lot of what was in this piece before but it was interesting nonetheless.

I used to be solidly anti-gun. But now I think carrying concealed among well-trained citizens would be a good thing. I'm not saying I would carry one myself, but it would take away the huge advantage that criminals now have.
