what was your first car?

I went to my kids' school recently and was struck by all the new cars the teens drive. Several have crewcab F350's and one kid even drives an H3 Hummer. My first car was a 1970 MG Midget that was such a POS that I wound up buying a 1969 VW Beetle as a driver. The VW was so rusty that when I drove through a puddle, water would come up around the rust holes near the e-brake and splash my butt. It has no heat because the heat channels were rusted out. Wish I had both of those cars now...although I have plumped up a bit and probably couldn't get in and out of the MG now.

Kids these days and their fancy new cars, I could care less because they don't know what responsability is and they just go willy nilly party all night and suck up in class all day..

After my discharge from the Army in '56, I bought my first car a '52 Chevy coupe. I remember trading it on another Chevy because I didn't want to spend $35.00 for a valve job.

Thumbs up *** Oh! The memories! ***

First Car & Daily Driver:
1963 Chevy Impala SS
Hurst 3-speed shifter
327 - 4 bbl - headers directly into "Lake Pipes"
"100#" racing-clutch
NO P.S.
Color: Candy Apple Green - Flat Black Hood
(195/205/215?) 70R14
Moon Caps on Black wheels

Had it for over 9 months - finally got "tagged" on the pipes - next car was a '65 Chevy Bel-aire 4dr. w/the 230-6 and 3-on-the-tree, no PS, but the best rust-free body I ever saw in Wisconsin for its age. (Even NOW!)

A brand new 1985 IROC with the Tuned Port Injection - first year for that motor and it was something else. Nothing sounded as good as that car did.

Oh man, the folly of youth, eh? I just saw the earliest home movies my family took back in around '57. My sister took them to a place that put them all, even the 8 mm, on DVD. Pretty cool.

At one point, the camera swung slowly around and scanned the street we lived on in Roswell, NM and oh man, classics in cherry condition everywhere.

My first was a '59 International Travelall Panel Truck that had once been a Sear's service van. Still had "We Service What We Sell" painted on the sides and the outline of "Sears" underneath crudely applied paint. What a beast.

'76 Malibu 4 door. Rusty - very rusty...actually had a plant start to grow in the carpeting once. The left rear door usually didn't open - something would come unhinged.
The 305 was easy to work on - plenty of room, and parts were plentiful and cheap for those A bodies.

1971 Datsun 240 Z

The car was candy apple red and was modified. Shadbolt Cam, headers with 3" exhaust, polished & ported head, and Bilstien suspension. Love that car! I blew a piston at 140 mph on highway 1 and that was it....
