I am not sure of the numbers, but I am willing to bet you that those stats are for very old crimes.

With the wide use of DNA, convicting the wrong person is becoming less and less of a possibility.

And I suppose that it varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiciton. Where I practice, there are so many checks and balances that the odds of bringing an innocent man to trial, and convicting him, are almost nil.

I don't read Grisham, I've never liked him or his style. I do like Scott Turow. I like the Chicago cases better than I like Grisham's Southern fiction. If I want Southern fiction I read Faulkner.
So, Y'all tellin us you be a barnburner?

An Innocent Man is a little different. Read it if you get a chance. It's scary how sloppy the police work and prosecution's case was in this trial. The judge didn't do a very good job either. The whole system in this rural Oklahoma town really failed to do its job.

From what he says at the end of the book this happens a lot more than I'd like to believe.

The problem with false convictions is not only that the innocent are wrongly punished, but that the GUILTY are still left free to kill/rape/rob/etc.

If you believe an eye for an eye then someone should stick a hot poker up his ass, repeatedly, and stuff him in a closet in between sessions.
Then for the grand finally stuff him in plastic bags and bury him alive.
Yep....sounds like a good plan.

I have a 14 year old daughter too. If anything like that happened to her the guy would never make it to the trial.

On another note, the death penalty stinks. It doesn't seem to be a deterent or even do justice when the sentence is carried out 20 years after conviction.
I think they should get one appeal. If that doesn't work the sentence should be carried out immediately.

Not enough suffering involved.

What I'd like to do and what in reality will happen is two very different things. I heard that the state of OHIO is looking to put hi-glow license plates on the autos of convicted pedophiles, nice thought but I fear it can be overcome by not driving the car or just stealing someones plate. Nice token but...

How about we develop a special task force that would monitor these jerks via GPS round the clock. We outfit them with taser like collar and when and if they go anywhere near a school or where kids gather we blast them with 100,000 volts...remotely that is...after all it is the technology age, let's be civilized...

I would like that, I would chip in for the taxes to fund it. Another thought is what if once caught and convicted we take a red hot branding iron and crank out a giant "P" on their foreheads, this way they can't work around the system undetected....ahh one can dream...

He should be passed around to the "lonely" inmates in San Quentin and buried alive while he still is sore.

To see that filth coloring and drawing pictures in court infuriated me to no end.

Truth be told, there isn't a punishment available to justify what this kid killer has done.
