Cigarette smoke just ruins everything!

I have never smoked and never will, I just cannot stand the smell. For some reason that smell bothers me more then any other foul smell you can think of.

Anyway I did an open for another agent yesterday, and this house is owned by chain smokers. The smell was so bad I could still smell it on my clothing two hours after I left. Everyone that came through thought that the house wasn't bad but was turned off by the smell. I agree the house is in a great location, has a nice yard, and is in good shape. Its priced well and just needs some minor updating to be quite nice. Why hasn't it sold in 6+ months? Its the smell, people just can't stand it. Before you could even consider moving in you would have to rip up the carpets and repaint the whole thing, along with airing it out. Its not my listing but if it was I would strongly suggest that the owners smoke outside, and at least have the carpet professional cleaned if not outright replaced, along with paint.

They completly ruin cars as well, one of my Aunt's smokes quite a bit and her cars are horrible inside. They are clean but stink, how do you sell something like that? I would never buy a smokers car.

I don't know who is a smoker here, but man you guys make your homes and cars stink.

I always thought smoke damage was limited to carpeting and upholstered items...not so.

I never really took to heed the words "used in a non-smoking environment" whenever I surfed for goods on eBay...specifically, music gear.

Some time ago, I received a piece of rack equipment I won from eBay. Internal circuitry was simple, and the unit was primarily aluminum with the exception of some plastic switches...but the whole thing reeked of cigarette smoke!

Never thought the smoke would affect metal. I dismantled the whole unit and sprayed all sorts of fragrances (including Febreeze) to mask the smell. I let it air out for a few days before I installed it.

To this day, you can STILL smell a slight tinge of smoke. So I basically own a rack-mounted ashtray...

Totally not related to the subject, but I took and passed the re broker's license test on Friday and passed. Didn't have to do the 210 apprentice hours either. Now I have to figure out what to do with it other than sue MLS and try to develop the one farm we have going

Worse than a beans, eggs and guacamole burrito?

Yeah, it's bad alright. But, just me, cigar smoke is just as bad.
I feel like burning my clothes after sitting with a group of after dinner cigar smokers.

Cigarette smoking is for losers. Period.

Oh yeah I had to go home and change the smell just wouldn't go away. Now I hope I don't have to get my suit dry cleaned, I think if I let it air out for a few days it should be good. The smell just sticks to everything yuck. Such a shame because its a nice house. They just put on a new roof and new siding last year, the interior just needs a little updating.

Cigar smoke is just as bad. When I used to go to game dinners all the time with my buddy you could see the haze in the room later in the night. I always had to shower when I got back the smell was incredible.

Did you read the entire thread?

The realtor's hubby stepped in to defend his lady's honor.

You've got to read the entire thread.

It is hysterical.

The "built by slaves" thing bothers me because the very existence of the institution of slavery offends me.

As a matter of practical historical fact, however, I am certain that there are thousands of buildings that were built by slaves.

Nah, I haven't read the whole thread, but I can't believe you guys are falling that the old lady's real husband has come to defend her honor.......

My father owns the oldest barn in North Carolina. The largest beems were ship's timbers and there are no nails in the place except for in the metal roof. There have been many articles and papers written about his farm and whenever the place is written up, "timbers from the Ponderosa, which were hewn down by slaves make up the primary structure......" is kind of a standard description. In the properties I see listed for sale in Charleston or near my home in Virginia, the description "hand built by slaves" is generally read as a complement the workmanship of a prideful bunch of unfortunate people. Not too many klansmen are in the market for $1M+ homes....

Heh, you think the smoke is bad smelling? Even worse is what cigarettes do to any white appliances, decor, vases, etc. I've seen people buy a white microwave, only to have it be an off-white YELLOW microwave a few months later, due to the tar in those things.

I'd never smoke, since I've only seem harm come of it, and it hardly makes anybody look "cool" when they're hacking up a lung... unable to climb a staircase. I guess it's an "addiction" for some people, but that's what they make nicotene patches for. Makes me glad New Jersey passed that smoking ban in all public places, since before that went into effect, I was unable to go to bars, billiard halls, and had many a meal ruined at restaurants with "no smoking" sections that simply couldn't keep the smell out.

You want to smoke, that's fine.. but do so in your own home, and don't expect it to sell very well unless you detox the place.

Besides the stench smoking infuses into objects, how about the people who are heavy smokers? Ugh!
