Taxes headaches

I've been trying to finish my taxes all day and pulling my hair out. Granted, I have far less patience than most people to begin with, but geez-O-mighty damn! I feel like the designers of our current tax forms are absolute sadists!

I would like to see our congressmen and senators locked in a room and forced to do their own taxes without any outside help (except for the wonderful IRS "help line"). All of this would be televised on C Span. Who else would like to see that?

They'd be calling a special session of congress just to reform the tax laws. We'd have a flat tax overnight!

$250.00 is not excessive to pay a professional privy to all your secrets to prepare your taxes for you as I do and it has served me well.

So, let me get this straight...you pay $250.00 for your tax person to prepare your taxes?

Or to keep the government from knowing your secrets?

Thumbs up *** TaxCut or not... ***

I buy the TaxCut software from H&R Puffinstuff.

Been doing it since '94(?).

Works fine for my purposes.

However, I do like Dee8go's "small room" solution.

But, I don't enjoy the idea of a "flat tax" solution that much...too many reasons to go into at this time...I'm still trying to see what the "right" solution should be...

But, anything different from the current "Gordian's Knot" of Tax Laws we currently have to deal with would be some welcomed relief.

I was just throwing a little humor into H&R's name...this tax crap grinds my butt just like everyone else...I LEARNED a LONG TIME AGO, you don't f**k with the IRS and live a joyful and fruitful life. No prison or court time, just miserable money issues for a while...

I've even seen a paper, from a file about me, claiming that I was a "possible" member of the "posse comitatus" a few years ago. I laughed at that one...problem was, the agent wasn't laughing. That's what happens when you live a little to close to some nut-cases and "they" think you're also part of the problem. Never was, is or will be.

Well, I spent all yesterday doing OTHER peoples taxes.

You are right on the money with the Congressmen.. The public would not stand for the complexity of today without the aid of computers to do all the calculations. Neither would the world of tax professionals and commercial preparers.
Anyone who prepares anything but the most basic return without tax software or efiling from home with commercial software or through free filing software available thru IRS website is just plain foolish imo.

We essentially did have tax (tax rate) back in 1986. It did not last very long.

According to the IRS, as of March 15, the biggest increase in electronic returns filed this year is from those coming from home computers. Those returns are up over 4% from last year. Forget the exact number.

Got any questions?

It's quite easy for us really. Home mortgage, a few charities, gas and expenses related to nonprofit work, minimal investment income, done!

Oh yea, didn't forget the phone tax credit either!

I made an excess contribution to a SEP-IRA. When I withdrew the amount it applied to 2005 income. So I had to file a tax amendment, and getting the right numbers means going through every calculation again. ARGHHH!! Everything about our tax code seems arbitrary and convoluted. I don't like paying for something that I don't understand.

If I had time, I would be lobbying more for FairTax. I have already written to my congressmen and senators to read FairTax and consider supporting it.

You can use the TaxCut software for free right on H&R's website if you earned less than 50k I believe.
If you earned more buy the software. The money is well spent to avoid the headaches your experiencing.

flat or fair tax is UNFAIR

WHY should a nonworker pay far less then a worker earning income
plumm excapes me in the current tax code

try to ruff figure bill gates taxes from info in MS reports
and see how much the REAL RICH are and were before the BuSh2 tax cut scam UNDER TAXED on total wealth vs joe lunchbuckets rate
remember SS tax at near 15% total and add that in for the total story on fed taxes

I got bill gates tax rate at under 15% and joe worker paying over 25%
and the neo-conned sheep bleet RICH ARE OVER TAXED
I say BS
and if they kill the death tax most of bill gates billions will never be taxed at all, and thats part of the so called [UN] fair tax idea

As I was reading through the steps in the form 1040 booklet, I felt like I was witnessing a shell game. Or talking to a shady, fast-talking salesman who was trying to use misdirection in order to fleece me while I was looking the other direction.

It makes me mad enough to give my hard-earned money to a government that either throws it away on stupid things, wastes it through gross inefficiency, or, worse yet, uses it to make my life even more miserable and frustrating. The fact that they make it agonizing just to fill out the fricking forms just about pushes me over the edge.
