I'm honestly trying to remember the last movie I saw that I really liked. I've been to a lot fewer films in the theatres in recent years, thanks to long lines, ticket extortion, noisy kids, and endless commercials before the movie even starts. So any film I go to see has a lot of baggage to overcome.

"Zodiac" was well done, especially in its recreation of the late '60s and early '70s. The cars are all correct (I saw a beige Ponton in two scenes set in '68, and a green 116 in a scene from '79!), and they don't look like trailer queens, but like cars that actually get used. Details abound like dial phones, people smoking in offices, even Jake Gyllenhaal's Timex watch with its Romunda band. And the story is more about the hunt for the Zodiac killer, and the frustration of the detectives with all the dead-ends, than it is about gore or sadism. Well done (but it's not out on DVD yet).

I liked X3, the third film about the X-Men, though neither it nor X2 could match the moment in the first one when Rogue asks Wolverine about his claws. "Does it hurt when they come out?" And without a flicker of emotion, Wolverine says, "Every time. . . ."

You'll be amazed by Kelsey Grammer's turn in X3 as The Beast, though; except for his voice, he's unrecognizable as Frasier Crane.

The Good Shepard sucked. Don't waste your time. It's a shame cause Matt Damon is usually a lot better. I really like his Jason Bourne character.

I may go to see reno 911 sometime this week.

X2 and everyone thought Mia was nutz.....Ghost Rider when it comes out on DVD is really great.

But not boycotting Bill Klinton. :silly:

So what's the problem? They were not really related anyway. And regarding her age...well, it's like my father always told me, "Women are like potatoes, once they've got eyes, they're old enough to cut."

so tonite i brought home bullitt. and blood diamonds and watched bullitt. i enjoyed it a lot. interesting contrasts to today. no radios in the cop cars and no cell phones. lots of pay phones. jackie bisset was really good looking. robert duvall played the taxi cab driver (a minor part). he looked younger than mc queen and was balding already. the cars looked grand....the green mustang (no lsd), the black charger and the soft yellow porsche 365 roadster.
and we liked the music...jazz...subtle.

good stuff.

I gotta agree that it is an ordeal to go to a movie theatre these days.....( last 10 yrs or so...) If they are going to make me watch GAP / Old Navy / Fanta & Coca Cola commercials just to get to the ****ty coming attractions about meatheads blowing each other up for a LB of crack cocaine, or a herioin addict girlfriend...the movie itself better be real good.

Most of them aren't .

2 of the last movies I can recall being good in a theatre were Oceans 11 & 12.

Then 13 comes out soon too.

Yes Ocean's were both great films.
Jason Bourne, and Robert Ludlum, are my hero's.
I liked Departed, but didn't see a lot, of any of the actors talents anywhere. I'm pretty surprised, any of these good actors, even signed to join up in this movie. I mean, it should have been a few other guys. Leo, is not my favorite actor. I spent a lot of time around him, during the making of "Titanic", in '95. Kate was nice, but the camera tricks, to make her look thinner, were absolutely amazing. They cut, like 35 lbs. off of her with the camera, and photo shops for that movie....Weird, but cool. Leo, was pretty much, an ass to everyone though. He was a bad,mean guy back then, he's gotta be worse now.

Any of you guys watch taht new show, at 10:00 pm, on monday's? 'The Riches' they call it... pretty good show..

Great show, watched the last two seasons
the last two weeks. Sopranos, the Wire and the Shield, all great shows.

Saw The Departed a little while back, thought it was okay but not the masterpiece some people reckon it is. Wouldn't begrudge Scorcese his oscar, mind you i think he was more deserving on other occasions.
I liked Little Miss Sunshine, quirky diversion of a movie.
However of the latest ones i've seen, i thought Letters from Iwo Jima was powerful. I had seen Flags of Our Fathers a couple of weeks prior, and thought it pretty good, i was familiar with the iconic image of the flag raising on Mount Suribachi, but not of the story behind it. Compared to Letters, Flags seemed a more mainstream hollywood war movie. Letters was not on general release here, just selected theatres. To me, it was a film of immense power and subtlety (i know that sounds contradictory). I guess we're not used to seeing the vanquished nations of ww2 being portrayed as anything other than savages/mindless killers and murderers.
