last night we watched 'the queen'.

very interesting look inside english political ops. the queen and her family live like, well, royalty. the prime minister on the other hand does dishes and his wife cooks for the family! and #10 downing street has normal sized rooms inside for the living quarters of the PM.

i thought the obvious padding helen mirren wore was unnecessary. so what if she is slimmer than the queen? it was the queen's character that was interesting to me.

my wife was a diana fan and as such hates (nearly) prince charles, so the movie's sympathetic portrayal of him grated her.

i was moved by the fact that diana appeared to have been kindof trying to have a "normal" life after leaving the royal family but was heckled by the press as if she were the president of the us or the biggest movie star in the world (not that that heckling ever is excusable).

there is far too much diefying of prominent people, imho.

i was particularly intregued by the fact that the queen drove the ancient LWB diesel stick land rover (and an old one at that) out around the massive and rugged estate where they "staulked" the stag. (hunted deer). and when she dropped the front driveshaft knew it and got down on the ground to check it out before calling the man to come get her.

night before we watched hollywoodland about george reeves who played superman and (apparently) killed himself.

disappointing, confusing and kindof irritating imho. ben afflack sleepwalks through another performance.

Did they mention the "City of London" in that movie?
I'm talking about the banking complex, not the Piccadilly Circus.
What is Vatican City for Popes Bishops and Cardinales, the City of London is the equivilent for bankers and the worlds richest elite. Even The Queen needs permission to enter.

Actually this link provides by far more factual data, esp. if you look at the monetary dimensions.

tony stewart calls nascar "like professional wrestling"

his beef was the arbitrary calling of "debris" yellows to bunch up the racers.

nascar would excuse it (privately) by saying it makes for a close and exciting finish.

the reality is that it creates a situation in which the possibility of an accident is raised to near certainty level.

and more importantly it raises the question and thought that they may be "choosing" someone to win.

oops i thought i was starting a new thread.

I went and saw the two Grindhouse movies a week ago. The first movie was called planet terror and was quite entertaining in a 70's campy, cheesy horror-action way. The second one was called death proof and was also good, just not as much fun as the first. Good stuff, a nice way to spend three hours!!!:)

I saw A Night at the Museum this past weekend. I thought it was pretty good.

"Maltese Falcon." From today's perspective, it was lame, like "Casablanca." But viewed from it's original frame of reference, a remarkable film.

love em both.

tonight we watched "ten items only".

a silly little movie with morgan freeman and a remarkable young lady with the last name of vega.

Howdy All,
Recently saw Endless Summer, Endless Summer 2 & On Any Sunday. Can't count how many times I've seen them. Almost as many times as I've watched Lost Horizons, Stagecoach & American Graffiti.
