W126 Safety...
Look at this video....
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Fw6VUwG9nOo&mode=related&search= The S-Class did a great deal of damage, and yet, the safety cell is intact. Marvelous.

I never warmed up to the idea of a subcompact hatchback, and this video shows why.

The 126 was the first production car to offer ABS brakes and SRS airbags as options. Mercedes invented "crumple zones" and "passenger cells" as well as the "three point" seat belt. In 1989 the 126 won the award (Highway Institute) for safest car because of the optional airbags and antilock brakes.
The 126 is truly an AMAZING car in all of automotive history! Cool 126 site (takes 8 secs. to load) http://www.geocities.com/w126s/ Last edited by German Stare; 04-15-2007 at 04:54 PM. |

sort of sad to see a cool old MB die like that. however, it reinforces my belief that big cars are more desireable in a crash....hense, I will keep my long suffering W126, my XJ8 and my Discovery.......

I had a left-hand steer gold colored 420 SEL like the one in the myspace video. An 04' Buick LeSabre pulled out in front of me pointblank at 55 MPH. Luckily nobody was killed, the Buick was a sheet metal horseshoe, the Benz frontend had severe damage but my passenger compartment was barely disturbed, all the doors even opened after the crash. A week later I bought the same color gold in a 560 SEL version. The W126 is one solid car.
