Please joint in the "Gas Out"

On May 15th, i am asking everyone not to purchase and fuel in protest of the high gas prices. No i did not just pick a date, but i've heard it threw the "grape vine" Prices are just ridiculous, and the oil company's are making such a profit.

so mark your calenders, put it in your cell phone, or in your PDA

NO GAS ON MAY 15th

Please don't fall for such nonsense. The only people this can hurt are the station owners and workers, who don't set the prices.

Now, refusing to drive a car on the 15th could make a difference.

Not filling up on any particular day will not impact your fuel usage. Using less fuel is the only thing that you can do that matters.

Do anything that will possibly help, but don't fall for nonsense that you read online. Not fueling on any particular day will do no harm to the oil companies at all.

As it is, I get fuel about once a week. What difference does it make if I refuel a day early or a day late? The answer should be obvious: absolutely none.

No excuses needed. People keep buying it, so the price keeps going up. When you see people dumping their SUVs due to the price, it will have to come down. Until then, it won't.

If nobody buys gas on the 15th, then everyone will buy on the 16th, creating a 'shortage', for which the oil companies will have no choice but to raise prices.

Sounds good to me. Keep it up, more money you spend more I make but we all pay the same for gas.

Let's just think about this for a minute. What is going to happen if no one buys gas on the 15th? Well, they will buy gas on the 14th or 16th. It won't make one bit of difference. The oil companies are not dumb. They understand that people can't simply quit using their oil without significantly altering their lifestyles. If you really want to make a difference then don't insist on doing things like commuting a half hour to work every day. But really, not buying gas on May 15th is a completely unsustainable change in the quantity of gas demanded. It will go right back to normal after this "boycott" is over.

Inelastic goods are fantastic for the sellers aren't they?

If everyone stopped buying for two weeks for example they would have a massive oversupply in the pipeline and nowhere to store it. They would have to lower the price to induce people to sell it. I highly doubt the American public would agree to that collectively for such a period of time to make such a statement.

Also, you have to consider the fact that there is probably someone in the Middle East who works for one of these oil companies that has the internet. Chances are they already know all about our little boycott. And they're probably all laughing about it.

You should have bought stock in an oil company or an oilfield service related company quite some time ago. Now you could be selling at a nice profit. This is a great hedge against high fuel prices!!
