Domain name queston...

I am going to build a website over the next couple of weeks. But first I need to register my domain name, like now. My business cards are going to be ordered friday at the latest, so I need the proper name for the cards.

Where is a good place to register it? If I do a google search tons of sites come up, so which ones are a legit place to register? I'll also probably need someone to host it, not much probably 5-10 pages at first.

ChrisFieldRealty.com is availible!

Find a name, use Godaddy or verisign or ??

Don't register it.

Many ISPs will do it for you as part of the package, and include the yearly renewal.

I like Readyhosting, not cheap, not expensive.
Reliable and responsive Customer Service.

Find one that has the requirements you want.

I grabbed it for $9.17 for a year on Godaddy. They will host it for you and let me build a site with it as well.

Now would be a good time to go to the library and get HTML for Dummies or something similar. Actually last month would have been better.

Look at the bottom of web sites that you visit. That will give you and idea of who can make your site for you, if you don't care to do it yourself. doing it yourself really isn't that hard.

for instance this website is made by VBulletin.

Good luck.

VBulletin is the forum software, not a design service.

You will like Godaddy - they will probably do a follow up call to you personally in a few days just to make sure everything is working for you. Very rare touch for a small ticket item.

Yeah I know, thats why I'll pay for it. They charge like $10 a month for a little site, and mine won't be very large at first.

I know someone who is going to design me a site, I just need to write it. He is a professional graphics designer, so he can do a better job then me.

My old highschool has night courses on this. For like $100 they site you down in front of a computer and teach you all about HTML etc, I'll sign up for one.

Microsoft Frontpage is great for building basic sites without having to learn HTML.

I started with it in 2001. It's easy to learn (I taught myself how to use it). My website's probably 700 pages now (plus many large pdf attachments), and I don't feel that I need to go beyond what I can do with Frontpage, at least for my audience. It's not flashy, but it does the trick.

Don't waste your money. Get a book called "HTML in 24 Hours" or something like that. It will tell you all you need to know. I think it even comes with a disc with Frontpage on it.
Like I mentioned before, hit the library. HTML is not that hard to learn. It's not programming it's just marking up text for the most part.
