Altezza taillamps ... junk or quality?

Was thinking about getting a pair of clear or smoke Altezzas off eBay for my 2005 Jeep Liberty, but I've heard a few bad reviews of the product ... i.e., cheaply made, bulbs burn out, etc. Anyone have any experience with them? I haven't been able to get much feedback and figured I'd try here. I'm not really into that sort of mod in general, and wouldn't touch the lights on my MB, but I'd like to do something to "slick up" the Jeep a bit ... there's so many Libs out there and I'd like to give mine a unique touch. I can't find any other clear taillamps or corners other than the Altezzas. Thoughts? Obviously I want to keep it street legal so I don't want to get a drastic smoke job done on them.

Not much different than the smoked or clear turn signals on our ole Benzes. Could call those rice material too. To answer your question: they are probably crappy quality and won't match up to OEM.

That is if they are really cheap and made in Taiwan. I got some smoked turn signals for my 300D and they didn't even fit, at all. 30 bucks or so down the drain.

Are you sure the aftermarket ones would seal perfectly?

Legality aside, (be sure before you jump),visibility would be decreased by them, a reason to avoid them.

To me, they are a "Ricer" look on any vehicle. Individuality can be better expressed through the typical stereo or wheel upgrades, if you want them.

Well, I do see a difference between smokes on my MB (never, never ... I want it to look classic stock) and on my Jeep. My Jeep is two years old and is not a particularly flashy car (I love its design, simple) ... I don't think it would look like a rice rocket so much as kind of "stealth," i.e., a lot of gray, quiet colors, rather than the bright red and orange in the lights. I'm definately not into ricer chic at all, but I don't mind the look of colorless lights on a new car. It's not like I want to tack on a spoiler, spinners and neon blue door sill lights.

BUT, the quality does matter to me ... and seeing that so many people have had bad experiences with these lights, I'm obviously going to pass. If I could get high-quality lights without so much red in them, I'd go for it ... but not going to sacrifice quality for "coolness." That's all I was asking for.

I agree to some extent on the "ricer" look they give, but I just personally think they look slick on certain vehicles. I find it odd that wheels, though, would not give you the same "ricer" impression ... to me, nothing junks up a car like tacky wheels. I know there are plenty of classy wheel upgrades, but I see so many cars with wheels that just look stupid (example: huge rims on a VW Golf, or shiny spinners on a car that otherwise looks like Godzilla gnawed on it and spit it out).

QUALITY!!!

Forget style, I'm asking about the fit, form, and function. Do they fit in the hole and seal up correctly? Are they the right shape? Do they put out the right amount of light when turned on/activated?

I am probably piling on, but, in the interest of safety, I prefer to have other drivers, who may be impaired, distracted, insane etc be able to clearly distinguish whether I am facing them or not. Having red lights in the rear and clear lights in the front helps. Art belongs on my walls. That's my two cents.

I am also not fond of people who hang CDs from their rear view mirrors and drive with dogs on their laps. Don't even ask me how I feel about cellphones. Did you know you can kill someone driving a car?

I guess I am funny that way...

Rick
