Dinner: Lots of Asian, Sushi, Indian, fish, some meat and at least two vegetables (steamed) when I cook myself. Pasta once every two weeks, no greasy sauces anymore, just bolognese with fresh tomato's. A good steak once a month.

I drink lots of water, absolute no sodas. Used to snack a lot when on the set, now only nuts. Most of the sugars I get are from fruit, beer or the occasionally Mars bar.

I hope I don't sound like a "health nut" but eating healthier came by it self when I started to exercise. The need for fast food disappeared, haven't been in a Carls Jr for a year and I used to love that place.

Btw. I don't have a scale, I sometimes weight myself when I see one at friends homes.
Good. Not bad at all...

Now... Do you find you get hungry between Breakfast and Lunch? What about between the other meals?

I usually tell people, especially active people like yourself, to keep a pretty high protein intake... some granola isn't great for that... and some is.

Also BEWARE of MOST "whole wheat" breads. Most are crap white bread with sugars and crap to make them brown/tan... the best breads have 5 or fewer ingredients.

Huge tip: Look around in your area for the following two stores:

Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. Whole Foods can be VERY pricey... so use them for what TJ's doesn't have.

Pete

P.S. As I sit hear eating TJ's Sun Dried Tomato Bruschetta with Stone Wheat Crackers (Reduced Sodium)...

I get my steaks and granola at Whole Foods but they are so outrages expensive. I get my fruits and vegies from a small shop; $20 for a week.

The frozen fish at Trader Joe's is pretty good, so are there nuts...

I'm sort off hungry between meals.

I get Aussie beef from Tj's. I'll work up a granola recipe for you in a bit.

I'm sure if you do a search on the internet it will say how, I think they call it body mass index? I see a trainer that measures all of that. Theres a measuring contraption that pinches the bicep, tricep, gut, thigh, etc. and you calculate that with your weight and get the number. But, I imagine if your properly motivated you could use a garage tool, like a dial caliper

Im a skinny guy, at like 9.0%, but youre in good shape up to about 15%, your not in bad shape though until like 22%. I think i read that "average" is 19? But these days, average isn't something to be proud of.

Btw. I don't have a scale, I sometimes weight myself when I see one at friends homes.

1- Stop eating breakfast. Actually all you should have from wake up to noon each day is water & fruit. I bought a good 1HP blender & make a great smoothie with 1.5 cups of frozen mixed fruit, water, a little OJ and a banana.

Whatever else you are having is building up and preventing you from the body's natural process of detoxing. It takes place from the early evening till around noon. ( This is why we wake up with wax in our ears; boogers in your nose, grease in your hair , crust in your eyes & sludge in your mouth/ morning breath, etc..) When you stop taxing your digestive system with anything harder to digest than simple fruits & just water, you will raise your metabolism naturally, have alot more energy, a clearer mind & burn up fat naturally. I suggest 16-24 oz of clean water 1st thing. You can eat any & as much fruit as you want until noon. It is good for you & fun. If you try this for 3 days you will get hooked.

2- I know you're Dutch so this will hurt. Stop eating cheese at lunch, and any other time of the day...POISON. (After you lose all the weight you want, if you want to have a little smoked goat cheese, you have my permission....)

3- All the other things you say in your diet are fairly good, and much better than what 98% of Americans eat every day.

4- Try not to eat anything after 8 PM ( Or at least 4 hours prior to bedtime.)
Not easy but the less the better. This will help your body be able to detox through the night which is it's natural process.

If you are doing all the excercise you say & this you will definetly lose all the extra body fat you want.

peace out.

1) Absolutely DO NOT SKIP BREAKFAST. It should be YOUR BIGGEST MEAL!!!! Your meals should get smaller as you approach the end of your day. I repeat, skipping breakfast is about the most foolish thing you could do.

2) Unless you're lactose intolerant (not that it stops me) -- Cheese is one of the best sources of protein -- DO NOT go over-board, as there is fat, etc. But it will satisfy you like few other snacks.

3) Not eating before bed is a good idea, however, there is nothing wrong with a little NATURAL UNSALTED peanut butter or a small piece of cheese. You don't want to go to bed totally starving as you won't get as good a night's rest.

You're doing well... snacking is fine. Just remember -- first meal of the day = biggest and then they taper down from there... protein is key.

Do you lift at all (weights, machines, etc.)?

P.S. My STBW is very heavy in the granola "thing" -- makes it, wants to sell it shortly, etc. Granola is probably one of the single best things you can introduce into your diet. Most granola is trash. Bear Naked IS NOT as great as people think it is. You can make better at home. There are MANY great recipes on the net... remember:

GRANOLA in the MORNING + PROTEIN!!!!

Breakfast is important. It could potentially curb your appetite through the rest of the day.

Stick to a healthy regimen, as you've done.

When you feel like binging, keep busy with something else you enjoy and soon enough the feeling will pass. That's what I do. I still have those cravings.

I've found food, with me, to be more of an emotional fulfillment in consumption rather than serving my hunger. I'd rather chow down on a bag of chips than either have a pear or simply abstain from eating at all. Even if I'm not "truly" famished.

There was a time when I was 221 lbs. I was also 5'8. In a little over one year, I lost over 70 lbs to arrive at 148 lbs and a height of 5'9.5. Now, I'm 5'11, weigh 162 lbs, am classified as large frame, and I exercise sporadically. I lost and keep the weight off by simply not eating. By not eating, I feel happier. By not eating I find pleasure in other things.
By not eating, women act differently around me.
I plan to take exercising a bit more seriously when I advance nearer to the big 3-0.

I did not say to skip breakfast. WHat I am saying about typical breakfast is correct. YOu can eat whatever the heck you want, but Jorn is trying to lose hard to lose bodyfat at age 40. SO if he does this he will naturally & safely be detoxing his body, boosting his metabolism and it is the perfect time of the day to get your servings of fruit.
GottaD: Saying breakfast is the most important meal of the day is just that. A saying.

It doesn't mean to clog up your arteires with eggs, home fries; granolla; milk; cheese; ( Which BTW is not good for you overall. If you know how it is made you wouldn't say that.) It is concentrated fat. REAL good for you.
Doesn't mean to screw up your metabolism with artificail stimuants like Starbucks, Cappucinnos ....

ALL THAT CRAP IS WRONG!!!!

The Protein Myth: is that you need all this protein. BS !! Too much protein especially from the wrong source like cows milk is really bad for humans. All this crap started and was fired by the Atkins Diet fad, & knuckleheads who think they have to look like"ARNOLD".... which is also not good for anyone either. To much protein is taxing on your kidneys. Not healthy. Learning what to eat & what not to eat in this country & this society is one of the most difficult if not impossible things to do.

If you eat a good dinner you won't go to bed hungry, unless you are so use to stuffing your pie hole at night, and your basically addicted to the feeling you get from shoveling crap in your mouth. If it's your Birthday, or you are 5 yrs old, go have some cake. Otherwise you don't need dessert.

LIke Dslbenz says, do something you enjoy: GO out for a walk or a bike ride after dinner & then when you get back, brush your teeth. YOu won't want to stuff your pie hole as much if you just brushed your teeth. It's OK to eat before you go to bed, but not if you are trying to accomplish what Jorn is asking to do. It is counterproductive.

By doing what I suggest he will detox- boost his metabolism & he will lose the extra lbs where he needs to lose it. In a normal healthy & safe way.
