My perfect weight is 180 lbs. Each winter, I tend to put on 10 lbs, from a combination of being less active and drinking beer. My main vice that one, beer. Oh, the sudsy goodness of it all.

So by January, I'm usually 190ish. Then I start running each spring and by mid summer, I usually get back down to 180 lbs. It's a cycle I've been locked into for a couple of years and it annoys the hell out of me.

For me, the fastest way to lose weight is by having a protein shake for breakfast, normal lunch and dinner, no food past 9 pm and running every two days. Second the eating slowly part. I eat a normal portion for dinner and if I'm still hungry, I wait 30 minutes. If I am still hungry after that, then I can eat a second portion. I could easily hit 200 lbs+ if I didn't watch what I eat. Too easy to get crap food in our society.

I've got to cut down on pints in the winter and buy some kind of indoor exercise machine.

I'd buy a Bowflex but I hate the ads for them.

Exercise throughout life is more beneficial than just losing weight or burning calories. Loss of muscle mass may be one of the best indicators of poor health.

Also, by building muscle mass you increase your body's ability to metabolize and burn calories. Weight training is really good for you. No matter what else you do to lose weight, you should also include some weight training.
