Hitchhiker steals car, then dies in crash

Whoops, she won't do that again.

OTTAWA (Reuters) - A Canadian hitchhiker, who stole an elderly man's car after he offered her a ride, died a few minutes later when she lost control of the vehicle and crashed into trees, police said.

The crash happened near the town of Hawkesbury -- about 100 km (60 miles) northeast of Ottawa -- after the man stopped to pick up 20-year-old Mandy Deschambeault.

"The male driver proceeded to step out of his vehicle momentarily at which point the female jumped in the driver seat, stealing the male person's car," local police said in a statement Monday.

She proceeded to lose control of the 2002 four-door Chrysler, crossing into the oncoming lane and rolling the car before hitting nearby trees and being ejected from the vehicle.

The female was ejected from the vehicle and found to be without vital signs."

Deschambeault was pronounced dead in hospital.

Well, well. What comes around, goes around.

There was news recently about a car-jacker, who hit this 91 yo man in plain view of a surveillance camera, while a bunch of guys stood no more than 10 feet away from the scenario, doing nothing. Visible in the recording.

Yeah, I saw that one. Buncha heroes. Maybe they thought the guy would be armed. Still, I'd have done something.

In Detroit no less, typical of the Kwame Kilpatrick farce to not press charges on the people that stood and watched........it's a race thang.

Where did you see that? Just curious. Saw the video of the beating but not KK. I can understand it if you say he hit the driver and took the car but to beat him that many times? Makes me wonder why? I'd have hit the old man once or twice and get the hell out of there and not linger on.
