Correct diagnosis? wiper motor on my 89 oldsmobile

I dont have too much time, but here goes anyways. On my oldsmobile, I had a few problems with the wipers. They'd stop working during a heavy load... (heavy rain, snow... ect) They'd start working again if I let the car sit for a while. Now nothing happens. I can feel the motor click, but it wont move the wipers more then an inch or so before they stop again. My diagnosis is the motor, because the fuses are good, and I can feel the motor click. I was lidderally touching the motor and turning the switch.

Lemme know what you think, I'll be repalcing the motor this weekend
thanks alot
~Nate

Seeing as how I let other people use my car, that's not exactly a great idea...

Sounds like you need a new motor for it. There's not much else to it, unless it's a bad connection, but if it fails under load, that sort of rules that out.

Confirm a good ground

Previous posters are probably correct, the motor is bad but check the ground contact, IIRC it is a flat brass? (shaped like the blade of a feeler gauge) tab on the bottom bolt holding the wiper motor. Check it closely and replace it if needed even if you your motor is bad.

Are you able to jumper the motor directly to confirm it is bad?

there's 4 wires going to the motor... I'd rather not eff with it too much (know what I mean?)

Would a junkyard one be worth my time, or not so much? gonna bite the bullet and get a new one for $70, depending on a junkyard price...

New vs. used

If the $70 motor is new go for it...if it is rebuilt personally I'd rather have good used.

Be certain to check the ground strap for cracks/fractures this advice is from experience not simply a guess.

Good luck.
