Matt: "I dunno, Honey, yesterday, it was still on the countertop"

Methinks Taurus Arms makes an 7-shot alloy snub in .38 Special. But, in a pistol, I'd use frangible bullets for home defense...over penetration, ya know.

For home defense the best thing is a shot gun. A short barrel -- less to aim, more to spray.

Keep everyone you love (pets too) behind you and keep the subject in front of you. No matter who, no matter how stressed, you can't miss the shot.

Using a handgun for home defense isn't really a good idea unless you qualify often.

But it's just so much fun to practice with a handgun.

You can't own a shotgun with a barrel shorter than 18" anyway. That would be just too good for personal defense.

Practice > Yes.

Defend > No Matter What.

snub nose hand guns are horrible innacurate.

I'd go with a shotgun any day.. 10 guage pump action with the first shell with rock salt so he gets the idea and the next with buck shot so he knows he should have gotten the warning

The problem with a shotgun (apart from a sawnoff which is illegal) is it's a little bulky to get through doors. A snub nose is a close quarters gun and can easily be pulled from under the mattress, bedside drawer,,,,,, or pillow if your that paranoid! I keep mine loaded with shredders which you can't get anymore. Two doses of that in the chest will render the patient fatally ill.

You don't need a long barrel to get the bullet going in the right direction. The problem with a short barrel is the sight radius. If you can aim it, it will shoot pretty straight.

And I'm not putting salt through any shotgun that I have to clean.

Just the sound of a shot gun cocking is enough to make a theif think twice....

My neighbor is a civil war reenacter and he has a few muzzle loaders. now.. He can load them in the civil war spec time(which is what 30 seconds) a thief sees him loading that the theif will be laughing his ass off enough so that my neighbor can disarm him

Pitbulls (or any protective dog) work wonderful. They don't even get onto the property with 2 hell hounds staring them down.

My good ole' "Blue" (Am Staff) does the job:

That only depends on who's shooting the gun. We got some pretty good results with Matt's 640 at 40 yards and then again at 80-90 yards which is way farther than practical.

Even then some quick draw "from the hip" shots worked out pretty well too.
