Well....seems that some of the Opel's are making it here to the states...under the Saturn name. Saturn could really use the leg up, and we could really use a few Opel's. The rental car I had in Germany (Vectra) is being sold here already under the name Aura - unfortunately, they changed a few interior bits, and most dissapointing is the lack of being able to get the 1.9 liter GTDi model with a 6 speed manual. According to the Opel site, this car gets around 30mpg in the city and near 40 on the highway (probably more here, since our freeway driving isn't as spirited as theirs). Instead, all we can get are 6's with auto. transmissions.
Some good news is that Saturn is bringing over the Astra (apparently a top seller, and one size smaller than the Vectra/Aura) later this year. It will be assembled in Belgium. The Saturn site does not say which engines will be offered, but if they offer the GTDi, you can bet that I will be taking one for a test drive. If the driving enjoyment of the Astra matches the Vectra, I might just get me one. (now there is something that I didn't think I would say...that I would switch brands). If they can make the Vectra move out with the 1.9, then the Astra should move even better - not offering that engine for the Aura is a stupid move, and not offering it on the Astra will be a even more stupid move. (my opinion)
