buying a used chrysler 300M?
Thinking about trading from my integra to a 300M. I know, i know, its no benz or bmw(what i ultimately want in the next few years), but if i sell my car private party i can pick up a 99 or 2000 300M wholesale and not have to put in much extra money at all. I love the styling, and think they are very comfortable, and they even get relatively similar fuel mileage(the 300M about 4mpg short in town). I had always told myself my next car would be RWD, but all of the cars that i like that are RWD are out of my price range. Eventually i want to get a 7 series or S class as a weekend car, but the potential repair bills and gas expense are putting me off at the moment, not to mention the much higher up front cost. So, anyone drive one of these chryslers? I see quite a few on ebay with over 150k, so that must mean that they don't totally fall to ****. I do also absolutely love the interiors of them, although i wish the zebrano wood were burlwood. Any comments on reliability of these cars, parts prices etc? Thanks,
Ryan

I'd be to afraid to buy a Chrysler car, I don't know anyone who bought one that actualy liked it and didn't dump a ton of money in it.
If I were to consider a domestic car it would be a GM, probably a Chevy or Buick. What about a Chevy Impala? They use the 3.8 and GM transmissions are just about impossible to kill. If you can get over the imagin Buick makes pretty trouble free cars.

I've driven them as rental cars. I like the exterior and interior size and, even for a rental, they are nicely appointed. Lots of power from even the smallest V6 engines.
I have no opinion about their reliability, however.

I'm 6 foot 4 and the one time I drove a 300M I found it slightly cramped,,,, certainly less driver room than the Porsche 944 I owned at the time. Great performance and handling though,,,,,,if you're comfortable with the interior space then I think they're pretty good value right now.

Hatterasguy, the point you bring up is the only reason i haven't bought one yet. I've done some research online and they do have a few problems but none of them seem to be major at all, nothing like catastrophic engine or transmission failure. I agree with you, most people i've known that have owned chryslers have had nothing but problems, but they have all owned the crappy cirrus/seabrings etc, i haven't known anyone with a 300M. I've driven a few high mileage ones at the auctions and even they seem pretty solid, although you really never know with auction cars until you get them out on the interstate for a while. Really looking for someone with personal experiance with regard to their reliability, if it turns out they are solid cars i think i know what my next car is.
Ryan Edit: I will not entertain the idea of an impalla or a buick. I don't think they are near as cool looking, and both portray an image that i do not want to portray(at least in my area). Additionally, Impallas bring in tons of money at the auction for some reason.

Yes, I recall that you have an affection for Mopars. Even pose with them...

I don't think their record for reliability is all that great. I think the tranny is the weak link.
If I had to buy a us car of that era it would maybe be a big rwd ford lincoln merc or gm. Tom W

A ton of Benz technology in that car... and they can had for a good price because of the instability of Chrysler right now.
