The ideal hunting dog I conclude should be simply an extension of one's persona,so closely integrated that no words or commands need be given at the best of times,this takes a great deal of boring,repetative training but it has borne fruit in the past.

Despite my wife's initial protests all my hunting dogs have slept in my bed or at the foot of the bed when "other matters"intrude....in fact they are the most ideal companions since they rarely talk back and always are happy to greet you without inquiring about the laundry,the mess in the basement or when the trimwork on the house will be painted.......
