Which is better for you ? Gatorade or soda ?
Hey guys,
I am always stuck when it comes time to buy a drink... I dont want to get a diet drink, I dont like the Splenda/Nutra-sweet/carcinogen taste. Regular soda's and most fruit drinks have a stack of high fructose corn syrup - that idea is wearing on me. Gatorade (tm) tastes good, but I'm not the real active type (trying to change that), and I'm not sure how good it is for my body... Water is always best, I know this, I'm just trying to follow it more often. So, from a "I'm overweight"/nutrition standpoint, which is better ? Soda or Gatorade ? -John

Home made lemonade, made with pure lemon and moderate amount of sugar and pinch of salt is best for replenishment, if there is no choice but soda, I would rather take Red Bull.

You can drink gatorade, but it's 50kcal per serving. Just so you temper the insulin shock, sip it, don't gulp it. Drink no more than 150kcal per hour, or roughly what your body needs while sitting around.

I mostly drink flavored water. There are a bunch of different kinds (mostly Propel for me 'cause I get it at Sam's Club in bulk).
Gatorade has lots of sugars/electrolytes which are bad for you if you aren't active.

water...
Soda is bad to being with, carbonated drinks really should not be consumed since all the sugars, caffeine, and carbonation that screws with the body Gatorade is good in moderation.. but you can overdose on electrolytes |

I didn't know you drank beer.
I drink water, seltzer water, unsweetened tea or booze. I haven't been keeping liquor around the house lately so if I get a craving for it, seltzer water with lime seems to scratch that itch. Also, when I have been offshore and it is 100 or better with no relief from the sun, the seltzer water is the most refreshing thing I have ever had. Can't see how gatorade, flavored water or soda could be anything but encouragement for diabetes. There has also been a lot of talk in the past two days on the usual suspect media outlets about diet soda being just as bad for your heart as regular. |

I drink mostly water, beer, Diet Coke, and Pepsi.
Everyone has a bad habit, I don't smoke or do drugs, so F it I'll drink some soda. I have never had a single cavity!

For replenishing after a work out Gatorade trumps soda only because of the water and salt content, other than that its just as "bad". |

Thats what gets me, seriously,
Im at a restaraunt or convience store, their choices are: soda soda soda alcohol (I dont drink) diet soda maybe tea, maybe sweet if I'm in the south water gatorade (c-store only...) I know that water is the best for you, and try to drink it more often than I do, but sometimes I just don't want the taste of straight water. Like Hattie, I also dont drink or smoke, but I also know that my BP isnt "good" (not bad though... I'm 32) and my mom has some kinda diabeties, and I dont want to get in that pit (watching blood sugar, passing out...blah blah...) I specify gatorade becuase I've seen most of the sport drinks have just as much High fruc. corn syrup as soda does... but gatorade has sucrose as the first ingredient - I thought it'd be different. I guess not. Thank you for the wisdom, I'm gonna try to up my water intake. -John
