Trash is "Pure Gold" says the Guv

Never elect a Canadian Born Berkeley Grad to governor. In a nutshell she took a "trip" to get jobs in Europe on the upside she got 200 on the downside she lost 2000, also on the upside she discovered that methane can be harvasted from landfills, although it has been done for that last 10 years.

Governor says trash may be energy source

Canadian garbage could be converted to alternative fuels

All that trash coming in from Canada that Michigan politicians have spent years trying to restrain is starting to look like pure gold as a source of alternative energy, Gov. Jennifer Granholm said Tuesday.
The governor, fresh off a trade trip to Sweden and Germany, said Sweden converts almost all its waste to help generate energy that it uses to heat its homes and power its cars.
"Something that has been a terrible negative for Michigan certainly has the potential of being something we can convert to energy and a positive for our state," she said during a news conference. "We in Michigan are set to be able to capture our resources and our waste."
Michigan receives nearly 4 million tons of Canadian trash annually - about 350 truckloads a day - along with trash from other states, although some shipments from Canada are supposed to be phased out starting next year.
The governor said the state will host a Michigan-Sweden alternative energy summit in early 2008 to encourage more investment and jobs. During her trade trip to Sweden, three companies announced they would create around 200 new jobs through new investments in the state.
U.S. ambassador to Sweden Michael Wood, a native of Flint, said in a release that the alternative energy summit - which he plans to attend - should help both participants.
"Sweden and Michigan have a lot to offer each other in this area," he said. "It's in the interests of both countries to develop the technologies that will help reduce our dependence on oil and address the threat of global warming."
Using landfill gases as an alternative energy source is not a new idea.
DTE Energy Co. in Detroit, for instance, owns and operates landfill gas recovery operations in Michigan and 13 other states. Consumers Energy, a subsidiary of Jackson-based CMS Energy Corp., gets almost all its alternative energy from biomass gases, and the Lansing Board of Water & Light plans to use energy produced from landfill gases to meet its goal of getting 7 percent of its energy from renewable sources.
Granholm noted that Sweden, which like Michigan largely is surrounded by water and covered by forests, can provide examples for Michigan on how to capture energy from its forest products, wind power, waterways and landfills in the years ahead.
She said researchers from Michigan State University and Michigan Technological University met with scientists and researchers in Sweden to discuss ways that the two sides could work together to promote more ways of commercializing alternative energy.
Granholm also said she hopes to get more Swedish companies to invest in Michigan.

Last time I saw Gov. Granholm, on her visit to Alma, she was being chauffered in a Black GMC Suburban, "War wagon," for security purposes obviously.

She is being referred to by the local citizens, as the "Garbage Queen." We have many full, land-fills in Michigan, that if it works in Sweden, it should work here. The Gasification projects, may be good news.

If she is driving a Volvo or SAAB, even if owned by US Corporations, we may be in more TROUBLE!
