It's goofy trying to compare the fires with the Katrina disaster.
Katrina impacted a couple thousand square miles -- in a rough triangle with a baseline from central Louisiana to Alabama and north above Jackson Mississippi. The fires are on some mountains and hills east of San Diego and Los Angeles. At most, a couple hundred square miles. the major hurricane impact provided a couple of days warning, much the same as for the fires. However, the people in NOLA had no warning whatsoever of the levee failures. All models indicated that the levees should have held so there was no forced evac. With Katrina, most of the people in the areas of greatest impact were the poor, working poor and middle class. With the fires they were mostly middleclass or wealthy. Guess which group has the means to evacuate without assistance and live for several days away from home and work?

I don't think Temecula was affected by the fire. It was close but no cigar. The closest the fire got to I think was around Poway area. Which is another 30 some miles away.
