Yup. The swollen ego of the American male is truly a phenomenon. If we take up arms, well the only just and proper outcome is that we stand upon a heap of the slain enemy and proclaim victory.

Vietnam was utterly lost -- fighting a war based on body counts alone is assinine and criminal.

And the hawks are going to go on about "surrender" up until and during their dying day.

Oh boy. Some stability has returned to Iraq. Hidden just out of view are the untold numbers of newly inspired Jihadists who will remember the slaughter of family and friends up until the time the find some way to take revenge.

I'm not surprised that a war weariness is settling in and some calming is occuring. I suspect the fervent nationalists are biding their time.

Talk $h!t.

Who said Vietnam was lost? Someone needs to research what the true goal was, you might find it turned out nicely. Not saying it went as planned, but the big picture goals were met. And it hindsight, again by chance, not staying and occupying is probably a good thing. We would still be playing daddy to those asswipes too cowardly to stand up and defend their own country. In that sense, Iraq is like Vietnam. Or more precisely, the Iraqi people are like the S Vietnamese. Where are the S. Korean types, fighters, willing to stand up and fight?

That sounds like an attempt to take the administrations line on the present Iraq situation and mold it backwards onto Vietnam.

So if we didn't fool around with that situation, would there be consequences too? You seem to think there wouldn't.

Why not go to war with China and Russia and end it all, also take out Cuba and North Korea along as well. That would be real fooling around wouldn't it.

It seems as though the founding fathers of this country had the right idea. They thought it prudent to keep out of the internal affairs of other countries and to avoid alliances with them. For most of our history getting involved in such things has not worked out too well.

Exactly...........unless we have strong proven and not concocted evidence that the country is downright hostile to us and in a state of launching an all out war, its just not worth it and in any case, a economic stranglehold works wonder and US has all the clout to do so with total impunity.

Nothing like a bunch of Marines to bring peace to the Middle East.

How many divisions does Al Queda have right now anyway?

I wonder if our Armed Service branches are having a hard-time meeting recruitment goals?

Post WWI, the country turned inward, believing that the internal affairs of Europe were of no concern to the USA.

The trick has always been determining where the internal affairs of one country end and ours begin, and vice-versa. For example, some people think that Iran is a danger to the USA but I have never heard of anybody suggesting that they are meddling within the borders of the 50 states. Same with North Korea and with Pakistan.

Same with Afghanistan on September 10, 2001.

He was talking about us fooling around in Iran. Well, we got 20 good years out of it. Now, are you saying that letting the cards fall where they may was a better option?
