WHY a customer CANNOT be issued the Certificate Of Origin
Hey guys just want to vent. Dealers suck because they never want to give you the MCO or MSO which ever your prefer, but that is the deed to the vehicle. All I want to do is buy a car and not be looked at like a criminal when I am paying cash and want to do whatever I want to do with my new vehicle whether that be cut it up in a million pieces or burn it or ship it oversees. What has happened to the home of the brave and the land of the free. Last time i checked living in America gave you the right do purchase anything and do anything with your property as long as you werent breaking any laws. I just cant believe all the BS i get when I wan to buy a car make a profit and pay uncle sam my income tax. Well thanks for reading.

Ok, so im going to vent from the dealer side now! Just so you know WHY a customer CANNOT be issued the Certificate Of Origin is to protect the dealership from Exporters. We will ONLY issue a Certificate Of Origin to a lease company or lein holder that has a VALID Tax ID number. An educated consumer KNOWS and UNDERSTANDS this. Mercedes-Benz secured the United States market so you all can afford a new Mercedes-Benz at discounted pricing from the rest of the world (which still never is enough)!!! We DO NOT ALLOW exporting of new Mercedes-Benz vehicles, thus, EVERY car sold to a consumer MUST be titled and taxed. I hope you understand this before you go and give the retail facility a hard time, they are just doing their job. As a retailer, we work above and beyond to make everyone happy, especially with Lieb at the helm of the company, we just need our customers cooperation and understanding.
Why does everyone want to beat us up? Has anyone ever worked in the industry, let alone a Mercedes-Benz facility? I work for the corporate store and we do things by the book and righteously- I am so tired of consumers that think they know everything by simply reading a consumer report or Edmunds- YES we have had issues with some models/ more than we have liked- but we work hard day in and out to secure the product for everyone. I am sick of the attitude that I have no option but to tolerate from people evey day- HOWEVER I want to thank the FAR HIGHER number of people that are enthusiastic and proud to drive a Mercedes-Benz and you guys are the reason why all of us get up in the morning, go to work, and continue to service the hell out of you! ![]()

I actually enjoy most of the "dealerships' suck" kind of threads. Being an MB dealer employee for nearly twenty years, some might think I'd be offended by threads such as this, but sometimes I'm actually enlightened. Other times, I'm reminded of what a great country we live in. We can say whatever we want, whenever we want, about anything we want. Having the first clue about what we're talking about is not required. God Bless America!

No, it's not illegal at all. But I think that is why Mercedes Benz doesn't give out the Certificate of Origin, it is probably needed to ship overseas. I knew a guy a few years back that loaded a container up with snowmobiles and shipped them overseas. He made a pile of money, but said that it was almost more of a pain in the arse than it was worth.
All I am saying about this guy that started the thread is that Mercedes is protecting their pricing structure both here and abroad. He is mad that they are doing that. Well maybe not mad, but he is ranting about it.

Hi, Guys. I'm new here. I've owned my 2002 E320 for a couple of months now and I love it. I have made visits to a few dealerships and even though I did find one that treated me as though I neglected to dress up for my visit, for the most part I've had pleasant transactions with the dealerships. I think the shop rates are sometimes too steep, but I'm a do-it-yourselfer and plan to do most of my own work. I've found the parts manager at my favorite dealership to be most helpful and the prices were fair (on the parts I've purchased so far). With the long time between service, the cost is still competitive, as compared to other makes.

What I really like about our local dealership is, that I can walk into the shop area and talk to the mechanics: Ask them about how to do a particular job and they will tell me. The group boss has even run me a copy of how to remove the transmission. Besides, they have a cup of coffee for me and sometimes even donuts. I also have this really ancient car, a '69 convertible and I can still get parts for it. Try that with an American vehicle!

Yeah you guys do everything the MB way, you know posting all your cars on EBAY so anyone can buy it, hmmm what else oh yeah selling cars to all the Russians from brighton beach to export to Russia because MB corprate will never find out.... I Know MB manhatten is corporate owned. Also, all dealers sell to dealers in German for petes sake Cmon I'm sure youve sold to Stephan Huber... All I'm saying is I'm paying you guys money for a product that you are selling. When I am owner of that vehicle I can do whatever I want with it as long as it is legal between the two countries I'm exporting to. And if your such a do gooder give WestMinster MB in colorado a call and ask him where his allocated 320cdi's and some 350's go.... P.S. I love the whole talk of we only have 12% mark up now not 15%..... Please

Yeah they say 7% markup but they forget to tell you 5% dealer hold back plus they get some floor plan discount so they have atleast 15% markup
