Question Tassimo coffee system -- reviews?

These are the stand-alone coffee-makers, one cup at a time, where you put in the water and then settle a sealed packet of espresso, regular coffee, hot chocolate, etc. into place and switch it on. It then brews your cup of coffee.

One of my faculty members wants us to buy one. I have resisted buying a coffee machine for the office, much as I like my java, for 5 years because I don't want to be the one who cleans it up, who brews the coffee, etc. With this Tassimo setup, it looks like our office would buy the machine, and the faculty who want to use it will purchase their own little packets. (And I've already said I'm not cleaning it up!)

Anybody ever use one of these, at home or in the office? What kind of mess, if any? For example, what do you do with the shell of the coffee packet?

The Ritz Carleton in San Francisco had something like that. If it is the same, the packet disovled along with the coffee. There was nothing to throw away or to clean up. Of course, I was wondering what the packet was made of, and what ingesting it might do to somebody long term. The coffee tasted pretty good, though.

Does it do much more than the cheaper Senseo machines? Nestle's Nespresso seems to be the "high priced spread" in the pod coffee market.

Tassimo makes good coffee, but you end up with lots of plastic waste, and it is more expensive than Senseo pods.
