I was trying to kill time today at work, and came across this topic and thought I would throw in my useless two cents. I had a heat pump installed two years ago. I live in Omaha where it gets below freezing all the time. I love the heat pump and would never go back. It is a lot cheaper to heat with and does a great job. When they installed it they set it to work down to 30F. The main thing with a heatpump is it does run a lot, but you don't get the fast heat ups and cool downs you get with gas heat. We have gas for a back up when the temps get real low. I can tell right away when the gas kicks in. When I move the first thing I will do is install another heat pump.
