They always want your money back for the month you die in. This from the SS website:

"If the deceased was receiving Social Security benefits, you must return the benefit received for the month of death or any later months. For example, if the person dies in July, you must return the benefit paid in August. If benefits were paid by direct deposit, contact the bank or other financial institution. Request that any funds received for the month of death or later be returned to Social Security. If the benefits were paid by check, do not cash any checks received for the month in which the person dies or later. Return the checks to Social Security as soon as possible.

However, eligible family members may be able to receive death benefits for the month in which the beneficiary died. "

...I don't write the music, I just sing the song.

There's an old Irish joke, "Pat, Mike, and the dead man," that worked out a bit better for Pat and Mike than for the fellows in the link.

The story has to be told live, printed page wouldn't be the same. I used to tell it when I was the MC for the weekly talent show at the health spa I used to work out.

You're not kidding....

A young woman in New York was so depressed that
she decided to end her life by throwing herself into
the East River. She went down to the docks and was
about to leap into the frigid water when a handsome
young sailor saw her on the edge of the pier, crying.

He took pity on her and said, "Look, you have so
much to live for. I'm Off to Hawaii in the morning,
and if you like, I can stow you away on my ship.
I'll take good care of you and bring you food every day."

Moving closer, he slipped his arm around her shoulder
and added, "I'll keep you happy, and you'll keep me
happy." The girl nodded yes After all, what did she
have to lose? Perhaps a Fresh start in Hawaii would give
her life new meaning.

That night, the sailor brought her aboard and hid her
in a lifeboat. From then on, every night he brought
her three sandwiches and a piece of fruit, and they
made passionate love until dawn.

Three weeks later, during a routine inspection, she
was discovered by the Captain. "What are you doing
here?" the Captain asked.

"I have an arrangement with one of the sailors,"
she explained. "I get food and a trip to Hawaii ,
and he's screwing me."

"He certainly is," the Captain said.
"This is the Staten Island Ferry".

Good one!

RE the op. I can see it myself....bernie is dead and there is his check just lying there on the table. An overwhelming sense of thrift takes over and they are thinking WTF? Give the money back? Bernie would want us to have it. Wanna bet they were planning to purchase wine?

I am just guessing MAYBE, just maybe these two are not the sharpest tools in the shed.

As such the judge may well send them home and to bed without supper....or they might really get screwed and do time for grand larceny.

IMHO they ought to get off just for the fact they gave us a good belly laugh!
