No thanx. I trust congress even LESS to do anything good. Only they can take a good thing and screw it up or screw up a worse thing.

What a joke. Those "loopholes" don't exist. If you think they do, lets see exactly how it works.

And the only reason you would get on a web site to write congressman is so they can obtain valid e-mail addresses. These guys are spammers and you bit on it.

Spammers get e-mails by:

1) chain e-mails
2) people forwarding jokes along with the trail of addresses they came from.
3) web sites like the one above.

If you have a beef, just get on the web site of your congressmen.

Use some common sense.

Either way, you are going to get hosed more if congress gets involved. Look at the tobacco settlements that are to help those get off cigs and pay for the medical conditions that the smokers got themselves into. They are spent and for all sorts of nefarious purposes. Leave congress alone. The less they do, the more you have to do yourself. Yes, it is harder but it pays better in the end. Just like getting a middleman involved. You get to pay a bit more for less. Yes it exists. But, it is too late to keep congress out of it.

Levin Introduces Bill to Close Enron Loophole and Prevent Manipulation and Excessive Speculation in Energy Markets

Senator Levin's Senate Floor Statement on Introduction of the Close the Enron Loophole Act

WASHINGTON – Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.), Chairman of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, today introduced legislation to help prevent price manipulation and excessive speculation that are leading to high energy prices for U.S. consumers.

The bill targets energy commodity markets that are currently exempt from government oversight under the “Enron loophole,” a provision inserted at the behest of Enron and other large energy traders, without debate, into the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000. The “Close the Enron Loophole Act” would subject those energy markets to Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) oversight to prevent price manipulation and excessive speculation.

“Right now, the Enron loophole makes it impossible for regulators to prevent major price distortions in U.S. energy markets,” said Levin. “The result has been higher energy prices for millions of Americans. Stable and affordable energy prices are vital to our national and economic security – to heat and cool American homes, generate electricity for lighting, and power U.S. manufacturing, agriculture, and transportation. We need to put the cop back on the beat in all U.S. energy markets with effective tools to stop price manipulation, excessive speculation, and trading abuses. The legislation I am introducing today is critical to ensuring fair energy prices that reflect the fundamentals of supply and demand.”

As long as they get their cut, the loophole stays.

I do agree that congress is not in the business to make things better for US citizens.

But you can't get the average US citizen to buy that. To me, asking congress to do something for you is like the kids summoning the devil to do their bidding. The devil does the work but later on, well, the devil comes with a huge bill for his services and you might find that you were better off doing it yourself.

You probably get most of your spam because your opinions have pissed

Good for Sen. Levin. Industries need oversight.
