anybody know X300 Jaguars?

A co-worker wants to trade me straight-up: his 95 Jaguar XJ6 sedan, gold with beige leather, 123xxx miles, nice car, no sunroof for some reason, for my 98 Audi A4 quattro 1.8t tiptronic, royal blue, tan vinyl, 132xxx miles. I just don't like the Audi a whole lot, and the difficulty in getting to the oil filter irritated me to no end, so I'm considering it. The "book" values are within $600 of each other, the Jag is a little higher, but close enough to not be an issue.

Anybody here know 95-97 Jag's?

The 95's still had significant issues. I'd say the A4 is more electronically sound in regards to the electrical system... although not much more. (Yes, I am aware that I just said that an Audi electrical system is superior.... sad but true.)

My in-laws had a beautiful '95 XJ6 vanden plas in baby metallic blue and white leather interior.... it was so sad to see it go.

Beautiful looking cars.

Supposidly the 1995-97's are the best XJ6's.

But the 1994's can't be that different, those were POS's, and the newer ones are POS's.

Like all British cars they are wonderfull to drive, and very nice to look at. However they are not Mercedes and lack a lot of the engineering. Parts cost is also eye watering! This car doesn't have it but on the newer ones you have to watch out for the Brembo brake option, unless you like spending $300 on pads!

Thats a lot of miles, you can get them pretty cheap. My grandmothers old 1994 started buring oil and really needed a valve job around their. If you want a Jag you would probably be better off selling the Audi and buying a super mint 1997. I'd also budget at least $2k-$3k a year, you really need it with them lots of electrical and some pretty pricy mechanical problems as well.

Well, we went ahead and did the trade. So far, so good. I'm going to start changing fluids this weekend and try to get a feel for what maintenance needs to be done. 4.0L inline six, ZF transmission that is similar to the ones in my old 5-series BMW's, ZF power steering, small cabin for such a big car.

My neighbor is a tech at Penske Mercedes, but was a tech at the Jaguar dealer before Penske bought it out and converted it to Audi.

I'll ask him about '95 XJ6's and see what he has to offer.
