A relative of mine had a '70 Eldo with the 400 hp 500 ci. engine. The drivetrain was extremely stout, and that car could just waste the front tires when the gas pedal was mashed from a stop. From a modern-day perspective the tires were narrow for a car of its weight and combined with rearward weight transfer, essentially acted as a fuse, causing attempts of excessive power application to end up as Michelin tire smoke.

Just a thought. IIRC, 1968 was the first year for front disc brakes in the Toro and Eldo. Nice to have in a 2.5 ton car with a 130 mph top end.

Yeah, didn't help me much. Summer of '02 a guy in a Grand Prix rental car failed to yield his left turn on a green. I punched the brakes and skidded into him at about 30 mph. Rear drums just locked up. My car was repairable, but the insurance co. gave me an okay settlement, plus I sold that rare W34 motor to a Cutlass freak. Chrome trim (redundant) fetched a pretty penny as well.

Those boattails are some of a kind. I'd prefer a '67 Riviera over a boattail model. '65's are cool too, with their "clampshell" hideaway headlights.

As far as front wheelers, my '72 Eldorado handled perfectly balanced. Power under the pedal: I never saw the end of it.
I had a flexfan installed, which was all you would hear ... kind of nice, it scared people out of the way

No shame in that, Swede! I can think of some juvenile antics of my own that I could do with one of those beasts.

bicentenial version

There was a great 1976 version, primarily in white with blue and red pinstriping. I did some simple work on it and got to drive it about 20 miles. Big, fast, thirsty... 8~) but that might have been my driving. It had the Buick 455 in it.

I knew someone who had one in black. It always reminded me of the Batmobile....

Just so happened that a guy had onefor sale over the weekend, parked in front of his house a few blocks from where I live.

I drove by it, and did a quick U-turn to check it out.

The car had been repainted (metallic ***** brown), and it seemed to be a decent paint job.

The interior was original and mint. It was a sight to behold.

Claimed to have 55,000 original miles, with receipts to prove it.

He is asking $8,300, but I have no idea what the market is like on these cars.

100% stock.
Isn't it awkward? What was once considered the heights of American automotive culture, appeares nowadays no more than 'pimpified' in people's perceptions.

Guido, don't kid a kidder. You wore a Superfly hat while driving that Eldo.
