After three and a half months, probably 15 phone calls, one of which was a three way call with the Practical Car Rental in the UK, and untold e-mails, Travelocity just called me with the news that the rental car company has agreed to refund 75 pounds and Travelocity has agreed to refund the balance. Never thought it would happen.

Little bit of good news in a stressful week. Tenacity pays off.

Good job. I would have bet against Travelocity honoring their stated guarantee.

That's two in one day. You have the tenacity of an English Bulldog.

In this process, I did learn one crucial fact that may have helped me prevail. It is impossible for the Indian Travelocity Customer Service representative to hang up on you. I think their phone system will not allow it. This means that as long as you are saying that you won't take no for an answer, they cannot get rid of you. There were times when I refused to accept their answers and I insisted that I talk to a supervisor and was told there was not one available, and I simply said, I am not hanging up until I get an answer. They'd put me on hold, I'd go off and do something else, they'd come back on it 10 minutes and I'd tell them I'm still waiting for a supervisor. Eventually it becomes cheaper for them to pay my refund than to continue to tie up their customer service representatives with endless phone calls with me.

That's beautiful.

I've found, unfortunately, that the vast majority of customer service personnel are instructed to simply "hang up" when the customer gets demanding of a supervisor and "none is available". It's a sad commentary on the performance of the various companies involved.

My recent attempts at getting Casio to step up resulted in an abysmal failure.........although none of them actually hung up the phone.
