I bought my first Corolla ('93) a little over a year ago and I haven't found anything to complain about yet. Get the manual transmission.

A Honda Fit might be a consideration too. A very clean, functional Honda as always.

Even if she had the Euro 240D, she has an engineering degree so I am sure she'd easily get it running again.....but the inconvenience and lost time is worth more than a $2000 down payment.

The Fit is a good alternative to the Civic/Corolla snoremobiles. Trouble is they are hard to get around here so dealers mark em up.

Early to mid 90s Panther body FoMoCo product? Big, safe, pretty reliable, ought to be able to find one for $2k.

Smart Car?

I second the Civic. The new ones are very safe, quick, and reliable. Just had a friend wrap his Civic around a tree, and walked away with a few bruises and burns from the airbag.

Haha.. we had one of those. When I was a lad. My dad said it was a great car. Saw one the other day and man they are tiny. Economy cars are so big nowadays.

Civic-sized cars are adorable. Until you try to play chicken with a Silverado 1500. Move up at least one notch in size to Accord, Altima and Camry territory.

As I have said before, the new Hyundais are tough to beat. The "content" for price is second to none. They have airbags everywhere, not to mention Electronic Stability control standard on most models.
0% financing on many models right now.
They don't have the status of a their Japanese rivals, but they have evolved into a fine line of cars, and SUVs. That warranty is worth some POM, especially since it will be the daughter's car.
If you have a good dealer cllse by, give them a look-see.

No, but the used car dealership I worked for had several and I loved 'em. Simple, efficient, 4x4, rock solid, reliable and cheap to fix. The only thing that could have made them better is a turbodiesel option. Honestly, if there was a TD option I might have gotten one of them instead of a MB...

hell yeah! I've owned 3 of the 83 4WDs. 2 of them SR5s. (don't know why they were all 83s but thats the way it worked out)

I love them. so simple. and fun to drive. like a go-cart with 4x4. LOL.

My dream is a TD tercel. someday i will own one. i may have to build it all myself. but i will own one!

I need to take new pics of mine. LOL

its so funny, i thought i was the only one who loved these little things!

I just redid the interior of the tercel. and i'll be installing a new carburetor soon. I got it a Weber off a Fiat X-19. next Half Day and pick and pull i'll be getting her a Turbo off of a Subaru. LOL so fun and SO cheap!
