American oil field?

Somebody sent me this today. Have any of you seen this before?

Huge Oil Field, Right Here in US?
21-Mar-2008

When we think of oil reserves in the US, we think about coal. But it turns out that America may be sitting on a huge, 200 billion barrel oil field that has gone unnoticed and could make us energy independent.
New drilling technology could make it possible to pump the oil from the Bakken Formation, which covers North Dakota and parts of South Dakota and Montana. According to Next Energy News, "The US imported about 14 million barrels of Oil per day in 2007 , which means US consumers sent about $340 Billion Dollars over seas building palaces in Dubai and propping up unfriendly regimes around the World, if 200 billion barrels of oil at $90 a barrel are recovered in the high plains the added wealth to the US economy would be $18 Trillion Dollars which would go a long way in stabilizing the US trade deficit and could cut the cost of oil in half in the long run."
Maybe this is why the Middle East is investing in solar energy!

..and the GOM. Don't forget the GOM...plenty of oil there and, at +100/bbl, economically viable.

Doh! You're right. I didn't even stop to do the math. Well, presummably, this 200 million barrels would be used to suppliment other sources. I could last for a couple of months or more . . .

ooops- my bad I thought I saw 14 billion per day imported but its million. So what is that then 14x1000 = 3.5 years. that helps if we can get to it.

The Current Occupant & his brother struck a deal preventing US companies from drilling offshore in the Gulf near Florida. So Cuba contracted with a Chinese company to drill off Cuba. Nof if drilling is going to be done in the Gulf, would it be better to have it done under US regs and agencies or Cuban & Chinese regs and agencies?

200X10^9/14X10^6 = (200-14)X10^(9-6) = 186X10^3 = 18,600 days.

18,600/365 = about 50 years

200 Billion barrel supply
14 Million barrels per day
= more than 14 days but more than my cheapo calulator can calculate and more than my frazzled brain can grasp (doesn't that come out to 14K days?)

Too bad the current environmental state would probably prevent us from accessing it.

I'm mathmatically challenged, plus I didn't pay attention to all the zeros. Excuse me . . .
