Where are ya'll? I know I'm not the only one.

The following has been greatly exaggerated, though not by too much.

My name is Joe, and I have a Windshield Washer problem. Nope, I'm not drinking it, though it does contain alcohol. Might give you a little kick (a kick straight to the phone to call Poison Control), I dunno. When I first got the 300D, the system was a mess. Only one tube was running to the driver's side jet from the tank, and the tube was blocked. I decided to make this one of my first projects for the 300D, it was cheap, and easy to do. After all new lines, a new check valve, replacing the fluid motor I accidently broke, putting a new grommet under the new motor at the tank, and replacing the driver's side jet that I broke while removing the old tube, I finally got it working, but I couldn't stop there. I had some fluid partially cleaning the screen, but I wanted it CLEANER! I wanted it to be like someone was constantly applying Stoner's Glass Cleaner. A MB enthusiast turned me on to some stuff known on the streets as "Summerwash". I now have a tab at the dealer for Summerwash concentrate (sobs), I'm buying tube after tube of the stuff week after week, I can't even afford air for the tires anymore! All my windshield washer fluid has to be laced with the stuff, I can't do it straight anymore!

I had to get a larger reservoir bottle from a Euro 280CE at the junkyard, the more fluid I could hold, the better, it made me feel like a bigger man. I recently updated my passenger side nozzle jet from the single jet to the double jet, put a cheapo inline filter on the line to prevent the nozzles from clogging so I can have a good view after hitting that swarm of gnats, and then aimed them according to the Maintainence Manual. I finally achieved perfect windshield cleaning. The jets of fluid hit the windshield at all the right places, cleaning the screen with one push of a button, 3 simple and steady wipes from the Bosch blades, and giving me a safe and crystal clear view of the road. I finally did it! But the rush was gone. I had to find something else to do to the system. Now I'm even having thoughts of using distilled water instead of the blue fluid, it CONSUMES me. I spend all my time in the driveway holding down the button, cleaning the windshield until the tank is empty. My family and friends worry about me. They tried an intervention, inviting the Parts Counter bartend..., I mean, Service Advisor who would administer me the Summerwash and the guys from "McParts" who would sell me the blue fluid, but I ran off and went on a drive, pressing the washer button every 5 miles. I have to stop, I'm becoming a "Fluid Head". Help me Windshield Washer Addicts Anonymous (WWAA)!

I love my gallon+ sized resorvior. The cool thing is that when the "low fluid" indicator comes on, it has some in reserve and it holds exactly one more gallon so it's easy to fill with one jug.

I use the orange Rain-X fluid. It puts a layer of the treatment on with every spray! I just need a new wiper blade now...

Oh yeah, mine is leaking too... It's so heavy that it tore free from it's top mount.

If you, err, your friend Joe lived up north in the winter, he'd have to stuff a big drum of washer fluid in the trunk. Driving in the snow and slop up there, you almost have to use the washer as much as the wiper(s). Apart from that, ie. down here or in the summer up there, I really don't use the washer much. If the windshiled is dirty enough that I need to clean it, the whole car needs to be cleaned.

I do use Rain-X a lot, which minimizes even bugs sticking to the windshield. I've had several people now have suggested the Rain-X washer solvent, but my first thought was "I don't use the washer enough for that to make any difference."

I have to have my windshield clean too. Also, I like turning the lights on and hitting the washer system so I can watch the headlamps spray like a lawn sprinkler....talk to me some about about this Summerwash stuff. What is it and where can I get it?

It's a 40mL container of soap like concentrate available at the dealer for a few bucks. 40mL added to one bottle of washer fluid or (sticks pinky finger in the air) distilled water (puts pinky down) will result in a fluid that cleans the windscreen better, works especially great at high speeds.

Some of you use Rain-X, but I learned a little trick that works just as well. I read about it on a detailing forum. First, you use a claybar and clay the windshield using Stoner's Glass Cleaner as lubricant, and clay the windshield until the clay just glides across smoothly. Apply some more Stoner's for a last cleaning to get off any remaining junk from the claying and wipe the windshield clean with a newspaper or clean, lintless cloth. Apply some regular old car wax to the windshield, and wipe off after it starts to haze. Also make sure you have good wiper blades. You'll find that the water will just bead up, and in light rain, the wind will just let the small droplets of rain glide off the screen. Of course in heavier rain, you'll need the wipers, works best with new blades or blades in good condition.

This junkie would hate my car as the spray nozzle jets 500PSI of fluid everywhere but my windshield. Then the stupid WW for the headlamps don't spray at all. Also, one headlight wiper works but won't park its useless self back where it belongs like its twin does. Is still have not figured out why. If have to use them at night, I usually park in front of a gas station so I can see the lights in the reflection of the glass, and have to tap the WW so that the rogue wiper parks in the spot exactly when I release the switch. Oh well. There are so many more important things to tackle before my headlamp cleaners are tended too. I wish thats all I had to do.

I'm surprised that you even need a windshield washer. Most large cities today have droves of windshield wash specialists stationed at most street corners. When the light turns red, they rush out with their nasty rags, spray bottles, and squeegees to keep your windshield sparkling clean . . .

I must have a working washer. The post-snow slush makes driving dangerous since the crud just gets smeared by wipers alone.

Nasty. I wouldn't stand for that, they'd have their feet in their shoes on the floor or they'd be outside walking.

I never have to use my windshield washer...

...there is at least one dolt on the road that fire his/hers up, and the resulting geyser of fluid that emanates is enough to clean the windshields of at least four vehicles behind them!!!

Of course MY problem isn't the OUTside, but the INside of my windshield. I have a regular passenger who like to put her feet up on the dashboard and she leaves toe prints on the windshield . . .
