"Cheap" and "Connecticut" should not be used in the same sentence.

You may find less expensive housing towards Waterbury.

I came from the midwest to CT 22 years ago, and I would suggest you give that Tenn. job a good looking at.

CT is a nice place to be if you have money, but rather challenging if you don't.

Excellent summary. CT is a nice place to live

Our family had been in CT for about 25 yrs. My bro is the only person left there (Milford). I will suggest that you need to be making good money to support a reasonable life style and be able to afford housing.

I'm not clear whether OP is looking to buy or rent. Do we know?

I beleive he is looking to rent for now, which opens up a lot more options for him.

We're working on our 375th in the same town. We haven't found a good enough excuse to leave yet. Although they're trying to push us.

I guess we have a few years to go yet. I've been in this neighborhood 15 yrs, a few new people will talk to us but not the old guard. If they don't know your grandparents...

I got one old feller to wave at me a few years back. He'd be out for his morning walk and I'd give a little wave when I drove by. After a few weeks he gave me a nod, and a few weeks after that he actually waved back. Just a little one but it was definitely a wave. I think he died shortly thereafter, I never saw him much after that.

If you think it is bad up there, go to Charleston, SC or the West End of Richmond, VA and get back to me

(you would think ole Ted Turner would be able to join any yacht club he wanted.....)

We ran across some attitude in Greenwich, which we later renamed 'Mean-wich'. Some of the people went out of their way to make sure we knew we were 'outsiders'. Even the waitress at a greasy spoon threatened to drop a plate on my wife's head because she didn't take her napkin off the table in time. I'm sure the rest of CT is better.

Are you in the Society of Mayflower Descendants? I went to an incredible party when I was in HS at Stonington of 'Mayflowers. There seems to be large group of them there, but obviously more in Boston and on the Cape.

Nope-it might be interesting to look into, though. My wife and a great-aunt traced our name back to Deacon Stephen Hart and my great-grandmother was a direct decendent Capt. Miles Standish. I don't know why geneology wasn't that important to a lot of our previous generations. It really fascinates me and if I had more time I would definitely research it more.

I took a DNA test and found I am direct descendant of a man who immigrated from England and arrived in the Plymouth colony in 1635. He and his son were among the first settlers of Cape Cod. All of this came at a great surprise to me because no one had done our family tree, and all we knew was as far back as the late 1800's in Michigan.

Cheap is all realitive. In Milford $250k ish is considered a good starter home. You just cannot get a house below $200k, other than a few odd balls that pop up now and than.

Milford is not really bad though, Fairfield county is much more expensive. In Southport, Greenwich, Westport area little capes go for $700k+

I good rule of thumb to remember with CT is: The close to NY city, or the coast that you get the more you will be paying.
