Vortec Suburban Question - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

I love my 1999 Suburban but it has been not the most reliable thing I have ever owned. Parts needing to be replaced have been

1) Timing sensor $200
2) computer (twice) (under extended warranty but go for $1500 each)
3) fuel pump ($450)
4) Fuel injector 'spider' and all 8 injectors ($2000!!!)
5) 4WD acutator ($138 engages front axle)
6) water pump ($65)

Other normal wear parts like filters (cheap), tires (expensive) and brakes (front rotors and pads and calipers)

Hey you know what? compared to the other cars in the fleet, this IS the most reliable car I have...

All this for a big massive 8 passenger truck that eats the highway and is very comfortable. This truck also saved my life, see this thread:

Internally I have carried 2000 pounds of cement or seven people or full sheets of drywall without ever needing the roof rack. It only gets used for Christmas trees

I have towed things as heavy as a 1974 CJ5 with a metal cap and snowplow sitting on top of a 2000 pound trailer and felt no drag but it is no Corvette -- my buddy's '98 Tahoe is a rocket with the same drive train and 1000 less pounds. Of course it also lacks three feet of rear cargo space and the third seat...

All in all I do love this truck and think it is the most versatile thing I have ever owned.

I now have about 150k miles on her and would not get rid of her for anything...
