Compuer video editing question...

Guys,

Here at work, we record meetings to a DVR then to a DVD to give customers to take with them. What we would like to do as well is to archive these videos as .avi's or .mpgs.

I'd like to find some software that will convert the video directly from the DVD to the desired file type. Our editing software will import the video but not the audio. I don't want to have to play it back off the DVD player to capture it analog because it won't be as high quality.

Any ideas?

I use Photoshop Elements to convert files and it works well. Also U-Lead is a good software to use as well.

Download K Lite Mega Codec Pack and Virtual Dub and you got an excellent conversion utility for free, also check out Media Coder, another excellent transcoding software for free.

You're probably not going to want to use .avi for archival...unless you have massive storage capacities. (which is not difficult now-a-days) Choose a more compact (but quality retaining) format like MPEG4 or something. Allows much smaller files with excellent quality. Of course what you can export to will depend on the capabilities of your editing program....

Thank you all for the suggestions! I'm going to try them out. I plan on encoding each video on the local machine and then archiving it to the shared area on the network which literally has terrabytes of storage capability.
