Maybe I'm not looking at the right screen but this is what this computer looks like and likewise, two others at work I checked:

Now I could add a profile but it came from the factory like this appearantly with no stock profile.

Under the "IntelExtremeGraphics" Tab it should have some contrast/color/brightness settings....

Thanks all -

Have no color profile loaded under display properties/settings/advanced/color management.

Within the advacned tab I have a graphics card tab for the GeForce FX5200 (128mb ram) which also has it own color management tab. Nothing is loaded there either although two are listed; generic and default, neither of whihc I created. Dint try to load either as not sure where to undo back to "nothing". Adjusting contrast etc there things get bad in a hurry.

Tried adjusting monitor contrast and brightness. When at work I saw the gray on blk/white, otherwise wouldnt have understood what you were talking cause at home there was nothing there. Brightness was set at 90 and contrast at 100.

With both maxed I see gray on black starting at 16 on up and gray on white extremely faintly at 239 only.

Might be a good excuse to get a flat screen and if that doesnt resolve it a new puter too...

Thanks

hit the default it wont mess up anything that is what the graphics card came with, if that doesn't fix the problem then yes a new monitor would be in order

Also, try centering or resetting your brightness/contrast settings on the monitor to the default setting before adjusting the ones on the GForce card. If you don't, the adjustments are compounded on top of one another.
