Thanks for the info on Imitrex.

I have more ginger on hand, so, should I have the misfortune to have another migraine (or the onset of one), I will definitely try it again. If it works, I'll be happy - If it doesn't, well...then at least I know what is coming, and so will people around me, because I sure become one grumpy s.o.b.

You will get it. I never got a migraine yet. However, the wife has them every month. High risk time is 1 week before and 1 week after. She uses about 6-8 shots a month. http://www.migrainehelp.com/?a=105

I'd still get it checked out since you never know what is causing it. You were not on the rag at the time, were you?

In my experience, phenergan works better than scopolamine for folks who tend to get sea (motion) sick, but damned if I don't know just as many who have chewed ginger crystals and not gotten sick as seem to be cured by either drug. Problem with phenergan is that it is controlled so I don't like to ladle it out.

do not take if you are overweight, have high blood pressure, a history of liver disease, are pregnant or could become pregnant................. have a pulse!

i'll take the natural solution EVERYTIME. even if all it does is take the edge of the pain.

You are the kind of person that they target by sticking the word "natural" in front of the product. Lead and Arsenic are natural but I don't think they are that good for you either. Lets see now. We have a product that gives you precautions and possible side effects and we have another product that nobody has really investigated and you have no idea what it does or it's efficacy but the latter is better? A couple years ago they isolated the "active ingredient" in St John's Wort out of a bunch of samples. 9 out of the 10 didn't have the advertised amount. How good is that?

Like I said, taking the pain off may or may not be a good thing. If you don't know what the underlying cause is, you are not doing yourself any favors.

yes, acupuncture does work

larry,

i applaud you for finding an alternate, natural remedy for your migranes. if it works for you, stick with it. i wholeheartedly agree that natural is better (in most cases), than some overly hyped, marketed pharmaceutical "drug of the month".

i want to relate a story about migraines and my mom: she suffered pretty badly through her 40's with migranes. then she remembered that an old sunday school teacher turned acupunturist/chiropractor moved to Los angeles. three treatments and since then, not a single migraine. Not one. Zero.

of course, i was skeptical until I got laid out by a mystery virus my senior year of high school (89). I was bed ridden for 3 weeks. after i got out, codeine #3 did not do anything for me besides making me into a zombie who still could not tie shoe laces without shooting pain through my back muscles. i had two treatments and after that, no more muscle pains.

now i know alot of you live in parts of the country where an acupunturist may not be available. or maybe you find the whole concept of eastern medicine strange. but i am a big believer having seen and felt it for myself.

oh, and yes, it can hurt, especially in areas where there is little fat. for example, your temples, the area between your eyes, nose, etc. but since i got htem on my back where theres a layer of fat and muscle, it didnt feel that bad. the needle is so super thin, after awhile, you dont notice.

my 2 centavos,
bob

I had a sour stomach for about 3 days. Baking soda didn't help much. But I remembered reading this, so this morning I checked our spice cabinet and popped 2 pieces of crystalized ginger root (actually not bad tasting). After 20 minutes I was good as new!!
