Talking Diesel is almost to $5! Yep, another fuel price thread!

They updated the prices here today....$3.99 for RUG (and 4.09/4.19 for the others) and Diesel is $4.89!!! Wow....only 11 more cents till $5!

I love seeing SUV drivers fill up.

As for me....I drive slower now and have been getting excellent mpgs....so the cost isn't a real issue....that, and I only drive like 100 miles a week or less usually.....sometimes as little as 60 miles.

Saw $5.09 yesterday, and RUG under $4 is pretty rare, pretty much no-name stations only. Any place that sells fuel with the name of an actual oil company (you know, that owns refineries and so forth) is over $4 and has been for about a week now. I own an SUV, and I like telling MBZ and BMW drivers that their problems are being caused by trying to use the cheapest gas they can find...

I'll be travelling out of town this weekend, to locals where gas is always a dollar more than normal, to play on trails ML's only dream of. If either of the G-wagon owners who actually off-road would care to join, feel free.

I heard that the premium "light sweet" crude oil that is getting all the headlines is what refiners like to use for diesel. So, it's sort of the worst situation for diesel buyers, no?

Light Sweet Crude is used for all refining production....diesel, gasoline, etc...

Light sweet means that its easier and a (lighter) crude to begin with, making it easier and cheaper to refine.

Heavier stuff requires more refining and costs more to produce.

Yes. I got to see the "light sweet" stuff in Iraq when an associate of mine "discovered" an oil pipeline while doing some construction work with a D9. I also got a look at "heavy crude" during a job interview with an oilfield services company in Bakersfield, CA. The light sweet looks a lot like the used oil out of a Mercedes diesel, but a little thicker. The smell however is way more distinct. The heavy stuff is thinner than tar, but not by a whole lot. I can see how one would be a lot easier to work with than the other.

Wow. It's cheaper to run my Tahoe than it is to run a 240D. Who would have thought?

This is just too depressing to even think about. So much for getting a diesel to save a little money. It's still fun to drive Max and I LOVE the sound of a diesel engine!

RUG 3.74 87; 3.85 89; 3.97 92, with a few depending on loc. 4.04 92....

and here in NJ we have pretty low state gasoline excise taxes, plus attendants pumping. Kills me watching guys in suits, or ladies dressed nicely in other states pumping their own gas.

I put 50.00 in the car Thursday for a trip to phila at 3.89 per. Last night on the way home put another 31.00 in to top it off.
Won't be any cheaper tomorrow.
