I will get payed for every appointment that i attend making $17.25 per appointment. I have the opportunity to make commission on the appointment only if i sell a certain amount(talk about later). As for buying the starter kit, you can lease one from them for a one time fully refundable price of $134. i can buy the kit for 70% off if i choose to. The kit is a total of $517. Ok here is what my commission is based off.

from $0-$1k dollars in sales I will make 10% of sales.

$1k-$3k I will make 15% in sales,

$3k-$6k I will make 20% in sales,

$6k-$10k I will make 25% in sales,

$10k-$30k I will make 30% in sales.

Ok what i have showed you is how much i can make in commission. Once i reach the $1k I will always make 15% in commission, once i reach $3k I will always make 20% in commission and so on. So the longer I stay with them the more I can make in Commission. I myself live in a higher income area so selling this cutlery should not be a problem money wise. Most of the people that i know have said that they would love to buy this stuff and are fully aware of the cost involved with Cutco Cutlery.

And for going home to home selling this stuff that is not the way it is done. I get called from word of mouth advertisement. I dont call people unless i have already talked to them and have said it was alright to do so.
The key difference in the way they seem to operate now is the startup cost. When I looked in to it, they wanted over $300 for a basic knife kit that I would use to give in-home demonstrations with. Then I would have to pay for any knife set in full before I could take one to deliver to a customer. I couldn't expect a potential customer to write me a check for about $600 and wait for it to clear so I could use the money to buy the set from Vector and pass the product on.

They also used to offer "call lists" that you could purchase from them.

Back then it seemed like Vector was using their "employees" as just another customer.

I do know a few guys who made some cash through them, but it only lasted for a few months before their leads dried up.

One of my teachers in high school had a son who was doing this in college, and was making so much money he was about to quit college for good and do knives for the rest of his life. They quickly talked sense into him and convinced him not to do that. I dont think it lasted very much longer after that. Also a customer of mine's wife signed up to sell a bunch of stuff from a catalog and to start you have to purchase 5000 dollars in stuff up front. I remember it was a bunch of crap you could buy from the dollar store. I think they made all their money from the startup purchase and let the seller get stuck with all the losses. Oh and don't let people discourage you. I think if you stick with it you could probably make a good amount of money. Me personally, I have to have a steady job. I can't fear not being able to fill up my car or pay my rent.

The way to make money in sales is to put yourself in front of as many people as possible. Waiting for them to call you won't sell jack.

I know of someone who actualy did pretty well selling these, they just went from door, to door, to door street after street. Not to bright, they were told to knock on doors and thats what he did all day long, worked.

well just got back from a full day of training. I also found out that you can make alot more money than I thought. After reaching $20k in sales you will receive a 10% bonus at the end of the month. After reaching $25k you will receive a 15% bonus at months end. Then when i reach $30k I will receive a 20% bonus. Now remember I will already get 30% of my sales so once I reach $30k in sales I will bring home 50% of the things that I sell.

Yeah like you're going to sell that much of their crap...

My sister was one of them, and I attened two training sessions before they realized they dont hire 17 year olds...
Dont waste your time...
Get a real job.
It's not worth it, and people will hate you for it. They lie to you, they brainwash you into thinking "you're just gaining experiance" by holding "class's" It's junk, their product is ok, but, they're a ****ty company to deal with...

My idea was just to get a bunch of people that meet the requirements to sign off on them having a class, especially if you find some poor sap to buy your startup kit.... Your results may vary... Sometimes you can find a "cutco startup kit" on ebay.

Yep... Dont waste your time.
Again, get a real job...

$30k is a ton of knives man.

You need to generate a massive amount of leads to do that kind of volume. If each "set" is $500 thats 60 sales, which means you will probably have to talk to 600-800 people to get that; probably more as you learn. The more experiance you gain the better your conversion ratio.

To get that kind of volume, after working your sphere of influance you will need to knock on about 50 doors a day. Thats a tough way to make a living.

Sales lesson number 1:
All sales are about the same, so if you are going to sell, sell expensive high commision items.

You sell 60 sets of knives you make $30k, you sell 60 homes you make $500k...the amount of work isn't that much different...just a though.

My currant deal that I am hoping to have inked by the end of this month; I had to go through 25 potential deals, 22 were flat out no, 3 said make an offer, all three said no to the offer, it was the 26 that should *fingers crossed* go together. Oh and a countless numbers of properties that could have been deals, all those 25 could have been good deals if the owners would sell them at a good price.

That or an hourly job. I'm 75% sure you can find a fast food place within 8 miles of where you live that will hire you...

Tough it out untill you find a real job...

i am not saying that i will sell 30K but the possibility is there. I am not saying that i will sell that amount in 1 month but over time it could be done. Plus if i need some more money this job is flexible enough that I could have another job on top of this.

Oh and like i said the starter kits are not that expensive it only like $130. And if the job doesnt really work for me that kit is worth $517, i could sell that on ebay if wanted.

yah I understand that to become a better salesman is to continue at it. Today was my training and from what the guy told me he said that i was the best at it in the training group. the group was like 10 people so that is a complement in my book.

They always say that to one person... Dude it's a setup, I promise. They said that to my sister too, and she sucks at dealing with people(much less selling to)

Dont walk, RUN away from that place.

Dude it is obvious that some people make it in that business. I am going to give it a shot. I dont think that this job is for everyone and maybe your sister fell in that category. Plus I am pretty sure it helps to live in a higher income community in which i do. Some people will have different views of the company and may have different experiences with them but i think that i could excel with them.

I am really looking out for your best interests here, but if you think you can pull it off then go for it. The potential is there, and a very small (VERY SMALL) percentage of people make it work for them.
The point was already made that if you're a born salesman, then you shouldnt need to sell small ticket items, unless you're just testing the waters...
Billy Mays didnt always sell OXI-CLEAN either...

Good luck
~Nate
