Has anyone won anything in a state lottery?

I was wondering who buys lottery tickets here. If you do, have you ever won anything? If so, how much?

I bought a ticket yesterday and found out I won something. Two bucks. Yesterday was an exceptional day. I closed a nice sale AND won two bucks inthe lottery.

Dang Dee. Thats pretty cool..... I think you should buy some more lotto tickets if your feeling lucky.

Personally, I have never won anything in the lottery..... I think I have better chances of being struck by lightning then winning money in the lotto.

No I don't gamble like that since the chances are so small. I don't want to waste money, that I can waste on other more fun stuff.

I only go to the casino maybe once a year and play blackjack or roulette. Thats the extent of my gambling.

When I go to France (Louisiana) usually pick some up. Biggest single win this year was $500. Mississippi doesn't have a lottery the casinos won't allow it.

Have won a couple $50 and $60 before. Keep hoping for "the BIG ONE" (million or over)

I've had a couple of scratch tix given to me in a B-Day card payoff in the $2-3 range.

I don't play unless the CT Lotto or PowerBall get into the insane dolllar amounts. I'll p!ss away a few bucks on some quick picks but it's actually pretty cheap entertainment. I'll spend the days or hours until the drawing dreaming about all of the things I'll buy when I win it.

The lottery motto is "You can't win if you don't play." My motto is "I won't win if I do play."

A friend of ours hit a ten dollar ticket in our state lottery for $500,000. He ended up with around $320,000,,,, chump change.

Hey, that's my motto.

Here in Cal., most places I imagine, the store who sells a winning lotto ticket also gets a pretty good payout, something like $400K. When I used to buy a couple of tickets now and then, I'd always buy them at a little grocery in Berkeley -- I like the owner. I'm thinking, how cool would that be, we'd both get to celebrate together.

I figured he'd never sold a winning ticket, I asked him, and sure enough, he hasn't. So if among the thousands of tickets he sells, he's never had a winner, how much less are my chances?

I gather that lottery sales are down in general. What's more, I understand that about half of the big prize winners in Cal's lotto turned out to be on welfare. So about half of the revenues that come into the lottery system were paid out by the state to some just like, really needy people, man.

According to the excellent book The Millionaire Mind, the amount of lotto tickets one buys and net worth are directly related.

The way I look at it is I have most of my assets in real estate (low risk) some in commodities (moderate risk) and I spend a few bucks on lottery tickets every now and then. (high risk).

I see it as diversification.

When I was 6 or 7 my mom let me pick some numbers. I remember I picked something like 4, 16, 17, 18, 19, 40. My mom said something along the lines of, that was not a good pick. Well, I got like 4 or 5 numbers correct and won a couple hundred! Totally awesome! The lottery is a total waste of money. On another occasion my alcoholic uncle bought me a scratch off ticket. I won $500 and he snatched it from my hands and said, "I'll buy you a coke." I should probob ly gamble more often. I've been pretty lucky in the past.

There must be some truth to that, Hattie. The more my net worth goes down, the more I buy lottery tickets.

J. Foxworthy says that the lottery is the redneck equivalent to a 401K.

Yeah, it's a ticket to dream for a couple of days. That's all. I never win anything. That's why this was remarkable for me.
