When I had mine removed, I was glad to find no rust had formed in those spots. Hopefully yours has no rust underneath either.

Geez...makes my '84 300D T look like a plain Jane sub-compact. Nothing wrong with a plain Jane though.

Looks nice from the photo.

Nice car. Keep the chrome for the next owner. Some people really like it a lot.

It is not "flag pole". It is a "turn assist" metal rod which may or may not illuminated at night. Many of the larger cars in Japan have that on the opposite side (from the driver). It is a permanent guide (as oppose to the automatic back up assist on the W140) to the driver so he/she knows where the right/left (depending if it is a left or right drive) front end of the car is. High ranking officials do not (on official business anyway) drive foreign cars in Japan.

When I lived in Tokyo in the mid 70's there were countless flagged embassy cars running around taking wives and girlfriends shopping, or kids to school, etc.

Not being on the gov dole we had to take the train 1.25hrs to school each way.

Fine with me, go with what the "nice Greek" guy said.
I live here (Japan) and see it (the "flag pole") every day. Enjoy your ride.

no i believe you alex, i meant my initial statement was based on what he told me, yours seems more reasonable, would seem as if it were a flagpole it would have 2 instead of one, also since it is a lefthand drive and not the norm for japan, the parking pole seems to make sense. thanks

well it began again this weekend (waiting for my intervention lol)
went to the junk yard to find some small parts, found alot more than i bargained for.
the main issue with the interior was the dash, had some pretty bad cracks, and was covered by one of those losse fitting covers, i ended up finding a perfect blue dash, it was almost out!!
also found
2 nice side mirrors
2 new like visors
instrument cluster that has never seen the sun
and all the door trim seals with the felt intact

i had thought i found nice door panels since mine have some minor cracksat the glass, but some idiot decided to rip the bottom portion off to see what was inside!!
anyway it is coming along nice. will post more pictures as it progresses.
