I'm sure water polo is one heck of a workout . . .

. . . . but I can't bear to watch it. Actually, I fast-forwarded some taped footage of it and it was sorta entertaining for about 30 seconds.

Ditto for field hockey. Oh man, running along hunched over that stick? Couldn't they just make the ball bigger and softer and control it with their feet instead? No wait . . .

Water polo IS a great work out. It was part of our phys-ed class in high school. Biggest drawback is that the ears really take a beating despite the protective headgear.

I'd play again if they had any teams around here.

The players look pretty buff, all right. I thought the headgear was as much just to identify teams. Shirts and skins would work too well there.

It just looks so weird to me as a spectator sport. The moves are pretty limited.

Tough sport, we played water polo as a conditioning sport to train for swimming when I was in high school.

I believe it. I don't mean to knock it as an activity, just as a spectator sport . . . . at least on TV while I'm wanting them to get through it so I can watch my precious track and field.

Watched that briefly too...I don't know how long the game runs at that level, but I figured players would need a chiropractic visit soon afterwards...

Exactly what I was thinking. I dunno, some of these games they come up with -- did you catch team handball? I didn't get it, they would take many steps with the ball then dribble occasionally. Why dribble if you don't have to?

But then I think Lacrosse is a pretty lame sport as well. Oh yeah, I'd just love getting whacked with one of those sticks.

Actually, I had to do some research on the sport of handball last week. Turns out, you can take a maximum of three steps while clutching the ball before you have to dribble...keeps the game dynamics from being too similar to rugby, I suppose.

Handball actually has a large following in Europe. It's no surprise that the US doesn't have an Olympic Handball Team...
