California call 911 to report drunk drivers!!

http://www.ots.ca.gov/Media_and_Research/campaigns/DUI_Crackdown/default.asp
Those of you that live in or have passed through california may have seen this, usually on the illuminated traffic alert signs.
well tonight while driving home we came up upon a guy who was having a very hard time to keep it between the lines, so my girlfriend said i think i should call and she did. we told the operator all the needed info and was instructed not to deliberately follow. we just so happened we were going the same way she assured us she would send officers right away. since we were going the same way we informed them when he changed directions or freeways. we were behind this guy atleast 40 miles and not one CHP officer did we see.
it was pretty frustrating and up until he exited no one was hit. i am just not sure why if they do not have the man power to respond to thes call that they request the public to call in. seems like they are clogging the 911 lines even more for someting they would not always be able to responde to.

anyway just venting, feel free to comment with your 2 cents

Its like seat belt laws, cell phone laws and saggy pants laws. They are just there to make people feel good as if something will be done, or, to bring in easy money. DUI/DWI fines are BIG money.

I did see those "Dial 911" signs all over the place when I went through CA last week.

I got REAR-ENDED in the middle of the interstate going 60 MPH by a drunk several years ago, then he sped off. I called 911, watched him bounce off walls along an offramp, followed him while still on the phone with 911, lost him due to his going close to 100 MPH...the local PD located the car, parked in front of his house, over 50 miles away, the next morning. So much for the police doing anything. He made it home, and went to bed. He was sober when they found him...

How it works in California

I live in rural Nevada County and it was explained to me that all 911 calls like that go to the CHP dispatchers and they always put you on hold.

So response time often from them, is really really slow.

So, for best response, what you need to do is to call the County Sheriff's dispatcher in the County you are in.

Those boyz will get on it IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!

I bet you didn't know that. I sure didn't

You want a cop go to there and wrestle a drunk? Why would he unless his quota is low? He risks messing up his hair and uniform and scuffing his boots. Much easier to pull a nice car over for whatever offense and issue the ticket so he meets the quota and not have to fight

A person with a BAC level between .03 and .079 may be deemed incapable of driving if there is additional evidence that alcohol is present (e.g. swerving while driving, ignoring red traffic lights, walking unsteadily.) A driver with a BAC between .08 and .109 commits a regulatory offense under the Road Traffic Act. A BAC level between .05 and .079 also constitutes a regulatory offense, but carries a less severe penalty. A person with a BAC level of .11 is deemed completely incapable of driving and commits a criminal offense.
Germany

Suspension of driver’s license is obligatory in the case of a criminal offense; otherwise driving is prohibited for several months (individually determined by the authorities depending on BAC and other legal offenses.

Maximum 5 years imprisonment in the case of a criminal offense or an equivalent financial penalty

Yep. 911 is useless. Housefire? Don't call the FD, just shoot at the fire, show that chemical reaction who's boss. Someone having a heart attack? Don't call 911, shoot that stupid heart. That'll stop the attack!

I don' think he meant the Fire Dept or the Paramedics. In the context, I would say that he meant the cops.

I'm sure it probably has happened but I personally have never seen it where the FD or Paramedics abuse their "disco lights" whenever there is a 2 for 1 sale at the donut shop or when they just don't feel like waiting at the lights.

FWIW I was driving west on I94 toward Madison a few years ago. A drunk young girl was all over the road. I called 911 and within about 5 minutes I saw two squads in my rearview mirror. They got her.

Yeah, I know what you meant, but I just felt like saying something silly.
