opportunity to purchase a 01 Jetta that needs a head/cam

There is a 01 Jetta TDI with 90k miles listed on craigslist that the ad says needs a head and camshaft. I am going to take a look at it tomorrow afternoon. Unfortunately it has an automatic transmission. I am thinking if I can get it pretty cheap and fix it up maybe I'll have something. I'll report back on what I find after I go take a look at it. I am working under the assumption that being a four cylinder they are probably pretty straightforward to work on.
What would ya'll offer for a 01 Jetta that needs a head/cam?

the automatics in those have a life expectancy of 150,000 miles or so,when it goes your looking at dropping $2500-4000.not to mention the fact that a head is gonna cost you probably 2 grand also.the 01's with auto's were to have t-belts every 40k miles.but they revised the belt and rollers in late 02 to go 100k,but alot of dealers used the same belt it was supposed to have and not the revised one.and that looks like the case here.too bad if you keep up on the belt you can get lots of miles out of em.mine has 345,000 miles.

Not if the rubber band wasn't replaced as scheduled.

I did not get out to see it this afternoon. I got wrapped up putting a transmission in a 190E and that took a couple hours. If it is still on there tomorrow I may call her back. It kind of scared me off after reading kmaysob's post saying to run from it. It can't be much harder to work on than a Honda Prelude and I really don't see where they are that bad at all.
