So, I guess wagons were not cool back in my partents generation?

I met some people who love Volvos and became freinds with them after I seriously considered buying their 1963 Volvo p1800. It was a beautiful car but their was some rust. They have always like my 240s, but they gave me a hard time when I bought my 92 745 turbo wagon. They said that the car made me look older then I really was. So, who cares? Its a great ride, handles and looks great. I really think that these are the ultimate daily drivers.

Freinds of mine love the car who are my age. I thought older people were supposed to be pratical, I'm surprised that this was said. I can't find the logic behind it.

They are coming back for our generation, nh500sl. Especially smaller hatchbacks. But yeah I believe back then they were the equivelant of a minivan. One of the reasons why SUVs got so popular. YOu could still look "cool" and carry a lotta ****.

Wagons have always been cool in my book.

I think maybe it was because the RAmchargers drag raced one back in '64....or maybe it was because the back end was so much fun with a girl!

Yeah, the were the mini-vans of their day. We always had one around when I was a kid. The first one I remember us having was a Dodge Aspen wagon with the 318 (I actually wouldn't mind playing with one of those now as uncool as it was/is) and then a brand new Datsun 510 wagon. I've always had an affinity for them. OTOH I don't see myself buying old minivans 20 years from now.

Tom, ya old perv!

My dad wouldn't own a wagon because there was nowhere to hide valuables...so he kept buying Oldsmobile 88 and 98 sedans in the most horrible colors. As an aside, he also didn't believe in power windows or other power accessories, because they tended to break, loved vinyl seats, and swore that A/C gave him a headache, so picture this...
sweating on a green vinyl seat all the way from OH to FL, with poptart crumbs sticking to our little legs, ah, the memories!

I have very similar memories, except my father didn't believe in those things because he was a cheap ba$tard and we were sweating our way to ME. Although in his defense, the Datsun had cloth seats and a sunroof so we were living large then.

I'm picturing a minivan shop forum for owners of classic minivans to exchange information and ideas. As with every "car group" there will be the purists who will only want the "stock" Dodge Caravan and those who will want to "upgrade" them. 18" spinners, LED undercarriage lights, smoked lenses and a sewer pipe exhaust.

Wagons have ALWAYS been cooler than friggin' minivans. Those things are an abomination!

Don't listen to him Swamp, the Honda Odyssey isn't your average minivan.

Oh, sorry, Swamp. I'm sure YOUR minivan is an exception to that last comment . . . .

This thread caused me to think about the '57 Chevy Nomad. Ummmm, now THERE was a wagon!

I should come clean, but it's only because I forgot. I came across a mint '84 Caravan with a standard trans. and 74K miles a few years ago for $1000. I was looking for a newspaper delivery vehicle and there was some novelty involved. Those thoughts have passed, though.

My wife's dream ride, '55-'57 Nomad. I'll go on record as saying it will happen. Some day.

And the Ody is still lame. Except with leather, Navigation, Enterntainment and 245 horses I embarassed to say that it's the nicest and quickest vehicle I've owned to date.

my first car was an opel gt.but it was in pieces when i got my license so my first car to drive was a 1967 olds vista cruiser wagon with the panoramic windows in the roof.that was a cool car and i'd buy another in a heartbeat.the early 90's buick and olds wagons tried to emulate em but failed without the windows on the sides.
