So there i was waiting for the trolley...

And something caught my eye, it was a wallet, no one else was around so i picked it up, there was no cash or credit cards, but there was a California drivers licence and a Screen actors guild card.
i googled the name and this is who it is

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Vereen

i will likely call the screen actors guild tomorrow and see about getting him his wallet back, i want to do that first before mailing it since his address on his drivers licence is given as New York.

Cool: You found Ben Vereen's wallet.

Cooler: You're getting it back to him.

That is awesome, that is so cool. i feel sorry for him though if there was credit cards in there. I am pretty sure he has a very large credit limit. Well maybe you two will get to meet or something.

I would just drop it in a mailbox. They will get it to him.

I'm thinking someone else took the money & credit cards and dropped the wallet.

That was my first thought.

Well done, Carson. No worse feeling than losing (or misplacing) your wallet. At least he won't have to deal with the DMV.

Don't handle it too much... Put it in a ziplock and give it to the cops.

I agree with that. Maybe send an email to Ben if you can somehow, and let him know what station you turned it in at. You could leave your name with the cops if you think Ben might want to thank you.

Or sell it on Ebay

His agent info is:

The Cooper Company
1611 N. El Centro Ave.
Suite A
Hollywood, CA 90028
323-957-6680

If you want to go that route. I figure the cops may be able to pull prints off of it.

doubtful cops would even waste their time. nothing really related to a lost wallet that would be reason enough for them to print it. i am sure if the wallet was next to a body or if Ben was missing or worse they might.

i actually called the Cooper company in New York, they phoned him immediately.

Similar Story

3 years ago I found a Apple Laptop that belonged to Dave Chapelle on the street in Astoria, Queens NY. It happened that Dave and his producer were at a meeting at the Astoria Studio complex (home to Lifetime TV, lots of radio station studios, Cosby did his show from there, etc) and when they were getting into their car one of them placed the laptop on the roof and then forgot it and drove off each thinking the other guy had the laptop. The laptop fell off 3 blocks away and slid into the gutter, when they made a turn onto 34th avenue heading for the Triboro Bridge.

When I found it, it was in its nylon padded sleeve but the screen was trashed and it would not boot at all (the motherboard was also trashed.) In the nylon sleeve case were a number of papers with Daves itinerary for a Comedy Club tour, part of a script for his show and a movie pitch sheet (a series of 3 paragraph groups for 4 or 5 movies Dave wanted to do-the idea is you describe the basic plot, etc in 3 paragraphs and if they bite you get development $$).

Anyway there was lots of stuff but NO PHONE NUMBER. ARGH!!

I finally found a fax cover sheet and sent a fax to the number saying I had found the laptoop and included one of the pages from the Comedy Club itinerary...5 minutes later my cell phone rang and it was the producer and boy was he thankful. He asked if I had booted the laptop and read anything on the HD and I told him that it was trashed but he could probably save the HD as the MB was the most likely reason for lack of bootability. (It turned out the HD of the laptop contained several movie scripts and tons of confidential data on Daves deal with Comedy Central -the $50 mil deal he ended up walking out on...). the guy was VERY concerned that I had NOT seen anything on the HD...

I didn;t ask for anything in return, the producer came by my office the next day and picked it up and then asked if me, my wife and 6 of our friends wanted to be Dave's guests at the taping of the last show of that season that Friday at midnight at TV City on 106th St and Park Ave
Manhattan.

So 3 days later me, the wife and 6 couples from my office went to the show, had a great time, Dave said something about it during the warm up and between takes, and then we got to go to the after party and Dave personally thanked me and we all did the photo with the star deal.

It turned out to be the LAST Dave Chapelle show ever taped! Dave dissappeared from view 4 weeks later after the announcement of his $50mil deal with Comedy Central.

Dave ended up suing his producer for some kind of shenanigans about the future shows and scripts and last I heard they had settled for some serious $$$.

I kinda wondered what was really on the HD of that laptop ...

If it was me, I'd call and leave a number where I could be reached. Give an idea when you'll be in the area and suggest he could repay you with a cup of coffee sometime.

Just the casual company would be repayment enough!
