Are you a 'Rotten Neighbor'

Just found this web site...

http://www.rottenneighbor.com/

Also just found out that there is a child molster who was dishonorably discharged from the USMC living about 1/2 mile from me

How? They are human, they made a mistake, they paid for it. If they did something really horrible they would still be in jail. The vast majority of "sex offenders" are BS "crimes" they did as teenagers that most teens do. Singling them out on a map is just wrong.

How about we make a map with people that got speeding tickets so we can watch out for them on the road?

I do see the privacy issue but a child molester is quite dangerous in itself. Its something where reform doesn't seem to work so I would like to be wary about it.

Nah, That happened when I was a juvenile, those records are sealed by law and not accessible to the public...

Statutory Rape is not something that most teens do. I don't know where your from. Maybe that's OK in Colorado.

I doubt very much you would think it was an invasion of privacy if you had a teenage daughter & lived next door to a child molester.
You wouldn't care right? After all it only a "BS Crime".

They made a mistake and abused a child and possibly scarred them for life. Where's the line drawn? If/when I have kids I don't want to worry about them walking home from school because of a sex offender living on the route home.

I'm going to guess you think it's wrong for people convicted of DUI's to have their pictures in the paper too? Sorry, don't screw up and there will be no problem.

Go ahead and light my house up like a christmas tree. I know that my speeding in the past caused zero accidents and harmed nobody.

I thought Juvie crimes are sealed when the guy becomes an adult?

If someone feels so threatened by it, go for it.

Maybe this is part of the payment. That they be registered.

Murderers are also let free so they are not necessarily in jail.

So is what they did.

I don't know where you live so I can't comment on that.

In California, in order to have to register as a sex offender you have to have done more than just "cop a feel" as a teenager. See California Penal Code Sec. 290.

Overall, sex offenders (child molesters and rapists) have the highest recividism rate. I have prosecuted sex offenders who began committing sex crimes even before I entered law school. Sexual behavior is hard-wired into their brain and nothing short of a lobotomy (or chemical castration) will work. Prolonged incarceration is the only real protection we have.

In California we try to keep repeat sex offenders behind bars with laws like the "the three strikes" law and civil commitments under the Sexually Violent Predator law.

I agree with you on one thing, however.

Services like "rotten neighbors" stink. Anyone can post anything he wants about his neighbors and not worry about consequences. That is the real problem IMO.

But that number you have is not really accurate. The problem is that they need to be caught doing it again. First time around, they are more clumsy about it. 2nd time around, they are usually going to have learned something about it and more likely to be even more careful. That is, unless you have a total moron. So, just because you have a recividism rate, it only covers it if the get caught a 2nd time. Therefore, I think that the rate is going to be higher than what your statistics show.
